Multi-Matic vertical milling, drilling & boring machine
Hello All, While thumbing though some of my EMCO Unimat literature I came accross a brochure that is 11 X 17 printed on both sides and folded in the middle. On the front is a full page description of a Multi-Matic machine. It is a Model #300. Spindle is MT3, Spindle Feed Travel is 4 3/4", Nose ...

Re: Has anyone ever built a railway gun in live steam?
Yes. One of our members, made a model of 'Anzio Anny' the German rail gun. The prototype was larger than any of the US made ones. The model was in 1" scale for 4 3/4" gauge track. It was something like 7' long. It was none firing. An interesting asside. When the Los Angeles Union Station o...

Re: Models sold in the UK
Bear in mind that British locomotoves were very clean on the outside. They did not hang the appliances all over the boiler, etc. all that stuff was between the frames which were all steel plate so not much to see. Go to Item 14 then click on the photo. You will get a enlarged photo and a more detail...

Hello Pamela, Your work is worthy of high praise and consistant. Outstanding. My late father left us some of his measuring tools. He was a precision parts inspector and worked until his eyesight gave out at age 73. He died in 1984. In his collection of measuring tools he has a 12" Starrett Heig...

Re: Quick video of my *new* Logan 10"
I don't recommend the use of graphite spray or grease on gears. Use the proper open gear grease. It is sticky and will keep them lubed. Use way lube on the ways. I also use way lube on the lead screws. It is sticky so you will need to clean up after each sesion and then apply a light coat. It has a ...

Re: South Bend vs. Bison 3-jaw 8" chuck
South Bend is now owned by Grissly. There is a company called BTC which has the largest chuck manufacturing facility in the world. They make chucks from 2.6"dia to the monsters that require a hoist to mount them. I have two of the small ones that I am modifying for use on Unimats and/or Sherlin...

Iron or die cast? Go to www.lathes.co.uk, then EMCO, then Unimat DB/SL There is a very extensive story about the early Unimats there. Might help ID the model.

Re: Purging a Boiler with Nitrogen
Actually it wasn't a purge per se. After steaming he dried the boiler out well then closed all valves, etc. and presurised the boiller to 4lbs of dry Nitrogen gas. He valves were pretty good and it would hold that pressure for many weeks before leaking down. He did have flue problems and at least on...
