Re: How are "proper" bevel gears cut?

When I owned the ski mountain I used to depend upon a machinist that had a small gear cutting business. He was not some old machinist that had been at it for decades, in fact he was much younger than me. He had numerous new and automated gear cutting machines, located in a shop that had been a Fello...

Re: Lathe chuck mounting standard?

I have that lathe and both 3 and 4 jaw chucks for it. The lathe came with the 3 jaw and options I could have added to include the 4 jaw plus I don't remember what. I did not buy the options but latter found I wanted the 4-jaw and called JT at Shopmaster and for about $100 he shipped a 4-jaw chuck. T...

Re: Ring light

Agree 100%. The laser line is too fat to use as a cut marker and the edges are too fuzzy to try and use then as accurate cut alignment. I still use a square mark a line and then move the wood until the most set tooth aligns with the line. When working where the lighting is bad the laser does illumin...

Re: Hoping to be more active

You have my deepest symphony. My lover has gone to the land where there is no tomorrows or yesterdays. Because of COVID the medical organization has moved her to a Nursing home that is 4 hours from me and I can no longer even go see her. When I was going to see here once a week she could remember me...

Re: Shoptask owners?

I just measured the minor diameter of the hole in a 27 tooth gear, its about .6045 or 15,3mm, so it would not fit one of the standard broach set guides but the keyway in the gear is exactly .125". Seems to me that hub of the gear could be formed with a custom turned guide and a standard broach....

Did this note get separated from some other notes that explains the objective?

Re: Shoptask owners?

It sort of sounds like someone is going to have to learn how to make the gears in the gear train. I just looked at my gear train gears and they do not look that hard to make. Right now my Tri-Power is totally apart (and I'm too diverted to fix its problem and reassemble it) or I would go set up to c...

Re: Carbide Tool Geometry's and Information

That was the most informative video I've seen on cutter bit geometry. Unforgivably at my age there is no way I could remember all that information.

Re: Hobby or Obsession?

I'm truly amazed that one person could get that many small gas engines working. I seem to have more small gas engines around here that I would ever want to have but three are not start-able and have been so for years. Further, in my area, Southern VT mountains, there are a number of people that have...

Saved Posts Mistery

If I save a post prior to actually posting it, where does it go, or more importantly how do I recall it.

Re: Syil X5 Milling Machine

Very interesting videos. It was interesting how an area in a Chinese area could have a half dozen 'uncles' readily available to help her with the unloading. I live in a small town with numerous labors that would like to take small jobs but they don't have the ability to take direction well enough to...

Re: NEWLY-ACQUIRED JET 1236PS

I have had good luck moving a Shopmaster 3-in-1 that weights just a bit more that your machine by setting it on a two wheel dolly that lays flat with two extra smaller wheels (Lowes or Home Depot sells it) and a 4 strand block and tackle or a come-a-long. I put planks on the stairs and hook the tail...
