Re: Tourbillon build
Nice! I figured out that I don't like working on watches. Maybe during the x-mas break I will tackle my stopwatch again. Jeez all it needs is one pivot.

Re: Increasing Friction
Russel is correct - I think the tubes will have significant clamping force, especially if I move the bolt as far away as possible, but that then decreases the contact area of the two discs as the angle between the tubes is increased. The indicator base clamps like that are too complicated. Getting s...

Increasing Friction
I am modifying my vertical cymbal stand to add a boom section for better adjustability. The joint comprises two 2" diameter, 1.125" long "hockey pucks" of 12L14. I make an offset bore through the diameter to slide 7/8" diameter tubes. I will make a threaded hole to accommoda...

Re: Drill chuck; new China or used German?
In the shank mounting? The jaw insides seem complicated. Sadly, my HF drill press keyless chuck is also 4.5 thou... Maybe I'll find the high side and give it a whack.

You can buy square holes!
Said Mr. Pete. Even better, I discovered that my lathe saddle lock is a 3/8" square. Guess what? I have a collection of 3/8" square holes, and a stripped 3/8" Taiwan socket drilled through nicely to make an L handle using a long-shouldered, button-head bolt. The threaded end will take...

Re: Precision Ground Flat Stones
Thanks! I checked out the website. Oddly, I have to have a youtube account to watch their video. I lost my account a while back and haven't felt like playing ball again.

Precision Ground Flat Stones
I seen it on yootoob. I bought a couple stones off ebay thinking I'd make me a pair. I was going to hold them with parallel clamps on the mag vise. Naturally I'm always concerned about these grinding wheel exploding, so does this sound safe enough? What I do not understand is that they've been told ...

I don't think Asians don't make quality, they just don't ship much of it here. Can't wait for the report.

Re: Speeds and Feed and DOC
I tried to get some photos, but metal is hard and lighting is poor. Chips look like steel wool to me, feel like sand when I rub them on paper. I measured cutter runout about a tenth on one side and about 4 tenths the other. I am using the mister just to blow air for chip removal, and I lead the cut ...
