Re: A spindle oil question

You and me both.

Get some cutting oil while you are at it, and some drills.

I keep a list on my computer ....

Re: Repair Montgomery Wards Powr-Kraft split-phase motor with Thermotron protection

Any motor that has "smoked profusely" is going to require a visit to a motor rewind shop before it should be considered usable.

Re: A spindle oil question

Spindle oil is just that...and generally not available at your local auto parts store. 10w is very commonly used in machine tools, but I doubt that 20w will hurt anything. Do a Google lookup on oil viscosity for a primer on what it means. You do NOT want a multi viscosity motor oil for machine tools...

Re: methanol burner

Maise is an LBSC 3/4" 4-4-2

Plans are available from reeves in the UK last time I looked, as well as Kennions (and others)

Reeves 2000 Google will get you there.

Or just "Maisie steam locomotive" will pop up dozens of sites.

Re: methanol burner

my thoughts exactly, which is why I started this thread -> to avoid unnecessary speculation... theoretically, variations of this burner will work with anything combustible. I can say for a fact that 'lamp oil' or anything that has a significant percentage of water in it will not work....or is more o...

Re: methanol burner

never had jet-A / jetA-1 / jet b / JP1A? or JP-5 or JP-8 available to try since i am a ground pounder......and they are probably quite a bit different from pump K1 in terms of additives (or lack thereof). I know that Jet B has some gasoline mixed in, so I would be reluctant to use it in this burner....

Re: Determining manual milling X axis feed ?

Speed may be reasonable, but on a smaller machine like that, DOC max and feeds are probably going to have to be backed off . As long as you can get the chips out, nothing wrong with a 6 insert mill. Just be aware that things like this gobble up HP and you gotta keep the chips from sticking to the in...

Re: methanol burner

Since jet fuel is basically kerosene..... Yes, this burner will run on kero, but it stinks. Steve advised me of this, and until amazon delivered my first gallon of methanol, I tried what I had on hand at the house which is K1 pump kero. I decided it is not worth the $ difference to deal with...smell...

Re: Determining manual milling X axis feed ?

DOC is not chip load...but your concept of inches per minute is correct. Chip load is how much thickness of material is removed by each insert as it rotates through, and up until you run out of horsepower they are relatively independent of each other.. So for a ..050 deep cut or a .25" deep cut...
