I meant the axle alternators, they usually attach to the fireman's side of the truck, and are splined to each axle, outboard of the journal. They provide axle rpm to the wheel slip system.

Are you going to model the axle alternator?

Re: Alco AAR class B trucks
The shop finally warmed up enough to do some work, so I decided to square up the journal boxes and clean up the equalizer bars and lower spring pockets. I'm very happy with how everything is fitting up, the sequence I used to square up the boxes actually worked, and the lower spring pockets match u...

Re: Don Young Maxi Lucky 7 Drawings
Don Young Designs Maxi Lucky 7 Drawings. Complete set of drawings dimensioned for both 3 1/2" and 7 1/2" versions. These were originally purchased from Don Young years ago. There is some slight yellowing on edges and on GA drawings, but no loss of legibility. Castings are available from A...

Re: New member from Texas thinking about a K36 (or 37)
I'm pretty motivated once I get my mind and hands on something. Not saying that I'll finish a loco in three weeks, or even three years, but time isn't really a factor. I just want to get something started and ONE DAY be able to look at it and marvel that I actually put it together Kind of like I do ...

Re: New member from Texas thinking about a K36 (or 37)
As I do not have the means to outright purchase a used locomotive, I'll have to build one. The last car I built took me six years and an untold amount of cash. I have no issue with the time required, especially as I still work full time (and will until the day I die most likely). The Meg Wendy looks...

Re: New member from Texas thinking about a K36 (or 37)
... Transporting something like a K36 or K37 will be a challenge. Some tracks won't have a unloading ramp suitable for a 4000lb locomotive. What happens when it derails? It's hard enough to get a USRA mikado or hudson back on the track sometimes, much less something that weighs 3-4x more. Britt, we...

Re: New member from Texas thinking about a K36 (or 37)
I had always planned on 7.5" gauge because that's what is available here. Not sure where the 7.25" idea came from. Speaking of modeling scales vs. available track gauges. I guess I need to get my eyes on the real thing because I can't really get my head around the size by pictures and yout...

Not a bad idea. Thanks for the tip.Greg_Lewis wrote:If you can, get to the Train Mountain Triennial this summer. I don't know if one will show up there but you will get a chance to see some 2 1/2 scale equipment. A K-36 is a very big engine and you should take a look at one before making the commitment.

Re: New member from Texas thinking about a K36 (or 37)
Hi Britt, I bought that set for the K36-37 many years ago and it is a very good collection although not complete. This engine in 2.5" scale works out perfect for 7.5" gauge track. Many have been built in this country to this scale. Best of luck. Jeff Smith I'm looking at them pretty hard ...

That size and scale is perfect! Thanks for the heads up.KenG wrote:David Curwen in the UK built overscale K36s commercially for 7-1/4 inch gauge. I don't know the exact scale but there is one running on the Diamond Valley Railway in Australia you might want to check out.
