Re: FNG with a couple noob questions.

Thanks for the formula,i'll put it on the machine where I can get to it fast and easy. I already have a good calculator in the toolbox :) I do know that i've got alot to learn about different grades of hardness etc.. Everything I want to work with is fortunately much softer than the bits i'm using (...

Re: FNG with a couple noob questions.

As far as cutting/tooling goes I should have what's needed I think. I've got the disc and drum tooling/bits from an actual brake lathe,I've used them to turn down distributor shafts in my drill press :) But as you guy's said I'm also worried about whether the machine can turn the drum appropriately....

Re: with a couple noob questions.

They have what is advertised on the box in them, however they are very small. I will try and remember to take a pic of them out of the box and post. I need to know if it's safe to turn a brake drum on this lathe? I have a guy that does them for me,but scheduling issues don't allow me to use him for t...

Re: with a couple noob questions.

As you said the tailstock came right off and was threaded in the taper. Thread matched up with the rod and went right in. I won't try it out yet though,it is not secure to table. I'm in the process of reorganizing my shop and waiting for a friend to help move the bigger stuff. Since those spare part...

Re:with a couple noob questions.

I will go out shortly and take some pics and measurements. Where would I look for an identifying mark or model number to confirm what it is IF there is one. The drill press has been handy,I made an adapter so it could spin my work piece and then used some fixture's from an old brake lathe at work to...

New guy with a couple noob questions.

Hi,I've done alot of reading etc.. and decided to buy a mill. I only need to do some smaller stuff, and have plenty of material to learn with. I came across this machine pictured below for cheap and picked it up. I plan to purchase a better machine later, but for beginning and experience I want someth...
