Hi Jim - I don't think he has a website. His e-mail is LocomotiveWorks1@msn.com. His phone/fax number is (724)573-9091. He is working long hours so it may take him a while to get back to you.

LE 1" Pacific boiler drawing wanted

I am looking for a clear copy of the boiler drawings for the Little Engines 1" Pacific. I have an old copy but would like a clearer one. I have tried contacting Russel Stewart but the phone number and e-mail address don't seem to work.

Dry Firing

I understand that it's tempting to test fire that new oil or propane burner once you get it hooked up, but please don't light it off unless you have water in the boiler. I know of two instances in the last few months where someone did just that and loosened the tubes in the firebox of a brand new bo...

The automatic cylinder cocks behave differently on air than they do on steam. It is the condensed water that opens them - once the water is expelled, they close.

Once, while I still worked at the Huckleberry RR I dreamed our Master Mechanic laid 464 on her side coming out of the tunnel. Of cours, there are no tunnels on the Huck. Another time I dreamed I let one of the firemen at the Huck drive my El Camino, and he took a turn so fast he rolled a tire right ...

The track should be about 3000 feet around. The purpose will be to demonstrate the hobby for the visitors, but I'm sure there will be long lines waiting to ride. It is NOT designed to be transportation around the site.

Mike Udolph and a buddy are building track panels down in Ohio. A whole host of volunteers have been preparing the track bed. I'll be co-ordinating the boiler inspections - the Michigan Boiler division is providing TWO inspectors to check out of state boilers. I'm working on boiler inspection info p...

Actually full size axle boxes were usually done on a slotter. This is best described as a vertical shaper. We had the ones for 464 done at a shop in Detroit, aptly named Detroit Slotting.

I was not talking about the cast firebox boiler that LE supplied, but I do have some isssues with them. As a project in my Radiography class in college I X-rayed one of these for the 1" 0-4-0 and 0-6-0. The wires for the cores were still in place; some of the stays had 'cold shut so the two por...

To determine the safe working pressure go to the Chesapeake and Allegheny Live Steamers and plug your dimensions into the calculations. You need the thickness of the sheets and the diameter and spacing of the stays. An alternative would be to use the Australian Model Boiler Safety Code, but I believ...
