Re: 2-8-0 Consolidation Build

So I am slowly progressing on the 2-8-0, working on the valve gear, main rods, and side rods. The main rods have bearings in them but the side rods do not. Is this normal for the side rods not to have bearings? Also there appears to be a lubrication fitting in the end of the axles, is there a specia...

Piping/Tubing Sizes

I need some help with Tubing sizes used with Model Taper Pipe fittings. I am working on getting stuff around for piping a 7 1/2", 1 1/2" scale, gauge locomotive. This will be the first locomotive that I have done piping on from the ground up. I have spent hours researching this and end up ...

Re: 2-8-0 Consolidation Build

Making some progress on the Baby Consolidation; frame is painted and repainted the wheels, got the axle assemblies put back under the frame, working on the lead truck now. I am still sorting parts but the Most of it is making sense to me. I am going to make sleeves for the cylinders to reduce the bo...

Re: 2-8-0 Consolidation Build

So I’m back on my Consolidation project, I want to make some cylinder liners to reduce the 2” bore down to 1 3/4” bore. This has been advised by doing research on these engines, as they tend to be steam hogs with that big bore. What material should I use to do this? Should this be a press fit? Thanks

Re: Club Dues 2023/2024

Not wanting to hack this thread but it kinda goes along with this topic, do any of your clubs have any specific requirements to join and remain a member? If so what are they? I have read that in the early days you were required to have a locomotive or one under construction. I don’t belong to a club...

Re: 2-8-0 Consolidation Build

So as I sort through this project and get ready to assemble these things, I have some questions. I need to find a lubricator for the cylinders. There is piping on the underside of the frame. The small piping goes to what is some sort of a manifold, the piping also goes to both the front and back of ...

2-8-0 Consolidation Build

So I just recently purchased a pair of 7 1/2” gauge Consolidation locomotives. From the research I have done these were started as a group build by the West Valley Live Steamers. I just started unpacking the stuff tonight and going through it. This looks like this will be a fun project, I hope it do...

Yes I did purchase those locomotives and will start a new post when they get back to Wisconsin. I’m sure I will need some advice on getting them together. This board is great, lots of knowledge and wisdom here.

Re: WTB 7 1/2" Gauge Steam Locomotive

I’m looking at one other option right now, if that don’t pan out I may jump onto one of those Consolidations, they were for sale on DLS a while ago, they sold the pair for basically what he wants for one, but that still is a good deal. I missed out on a few options a while back but wasn’t looking fo...

Re: WTB 7 1/2" Gauge Steam Locomotive

I’ve seen those also, I really like the little Consolidation, looks like most of the machine work is done and he will ship. Those little Americans look like a pretty good deal also. Those Consolidations were a kit someone was putting together in the 80’s I guess. I found a video on YouTube of one ru...
