Maximat 11
Gerald. You're not nuts yet but if you lay it over wrong you could get close. If you don't want to disassemble it then a box truck with a lift gate is worthe the $. the older vans were higher and with a hoist you get stuff in like this but man there are unforseens which you see when you take them ap...

Chinese precision tools
Many of the examples you posted are things I have some experience with. For some reason actual angle blocks and cutting tools are not of Asian or Indian although there are many good ones. For some reason I did not purchase them. I have looked at the drill points of many a "good deal" and se...

books
As many books I might have, I may only glean some % out of them. I have never found one book by any author that was without knowledge. These guys knew stuff dead- on. I agree with this our previous mentor about Colvin. That name comes up. There is Colvin &Stanley American Machinist's Handbook a ...

shaper
I'm not sure anyone is able to take a stab at this at this particular time.My post is not end- all, nothing really. At that risk can offer some opinion. Elliot is some UK model and the size is larger than tabletop mini shapers. You can do some serious bis with the right vise. The price of the vise w...

SB lathe
I'm with AlcoSteam on the brutal evaluation. That shipping cost and you not able to inspect ... Unless a later 13" it has a MT 4 headstock bore. Great lathes, done great work. There were great horses which became right saddlebacked. The peach is there and this may be it but this is a very heavy m...

fenders arbors and such
I'm compromised for I cannot answer your question and lead you into what i think is incorrect path. I cannot tell you more $$ must be spent. That chuck on R-8 may be locked tight by means unknown and have a lh screw up it. I don't know. By busting loose that chuck from that shank it may never be as ...

first lathes etc
I just happened to be looking at something and this Maximat V-11 was there on ebay. It's # is 160129393405. Now there are lathes but the reason i mention is because the seller is in S Carolina and it is unclear whether he would arrange shipping therefor no bids. Now he starts at 2k$ but is not one o...

I think this is an example of machines we normally don't know about. I am very impressed with it's design but a lot of that is in the enclosed head. If somebody shot the gears and spindles then your into a task. If you want to go into this for resale you need investigate some internals. If you want ...

9" South Bend precision
There are certain things that work well on oil soaked leather. One that i know is that white Permatex gasket sealer. It is very sticky. You don't need much. The South Bend 9 is really a good lathe with the flat belts you can replace without upsetting everything. I noticed again my limitation to unde...

Atlas 10" lathe
Well Timkens are great but in my opinion the 10" was about the max for that headstock. I had a 12" and it is capable of good work. I just think this 10x24 may have some goodies in the drawers and -well it's over anyway.
