Re: Restoring a modified Allen 2-4-0 barn find

PontiacGuy's method of epoxy primer plus bedliner sounds great as it offers an added layer of protection, assuming the bedliner will hold up and remain somewhat flexible. I can't comment on bedliner in this application but I can say that I have a truck that had bedliner sprayed in in Dec. '06, half...

Re: which lathe should I pick?

Hi There, I started in (commercial) shops in '57. In all those years, I've never had need for a follow rest. I use my follower once in a while. The last time was to make firing pins for a J. C. Higgins Model 20. It is a necessity to machine long slender parts (like a firing pin). Good Luck! -Blue C...

Its rated 100 amps @ 250vac. You can find them cheaper. I mounted the receptacle in a jbox. http://www.ebay.com/itm/HUBBELL-HBL4100R9W-100-Amp-WELDER-RECEPTACLE-4100R9W-4100P9W-PLUG-GRIP-250V-100A-/161922934274 Jim B The Lincoln has this gigantic aluminum plug that has to be 8 inches long and 3 inc...

Re: Plasma cutters 101

I have had great success with ESAB machines, and have a larger machine from them. I wouldn't hesitate to recomend them. I personally don't like hypertherm, I have used a few of their machines with less than stellar results (that being said there are a lot of them out there and a lot of people happy ...

Re: cant see old age

At the risk of further confusing you, if you have a 3-button mouse with a scroll wheel (and they are common enough), holding down the control key while scrolling the wheel works the same, larger or smaller. I tried it. It doesn't work, at least on Windows XP. Going by memory, if you go to 'Control ...

I am always interested to hear how others did it, so there won't be any boredom here!

They are beautiful pair of locomotives. By the way, welcome to the site!

Re: New welders

Without using them I would keep the Miller... That being said I do have a strong preference for Miller. I think Jack has the right idea, though. Make sure all the functions work on both and try them out. If you don't know enough about welding to do that find a buddy, friend of a friend, or, if you d...

Autodesk Fusion 360

I downloaded Fusion 360 and have been going through the tutorials trying to learn how to use these mangfangeled devices to make pictures instead of a simple pencil and paper. Are there any other sources for tutorials that anyone has found and like, or does anyone have a favorite Youtuber that shows ...

Re: 1" scale Maxitrak electric 0-4-0

I contacted Maxitrak when I bought a used electric 0-6-0. They were able to provide some information about the engine I had. Then, after looking at the system they used to drive the traction motor, I bought a 4qd controller and wired it up how I wanted it.

Appliance, HVAC, Lawn Equipment website

I came across this site today trying to find a parts diagram to fix a washing machine. I was very impressed by it and thought I would share with the forum: http://www.repairclinic.com/ They sell parts and have videos online to help complete different repairs, I haven't been anywhere but the 'Applian...
