Re: 3 phase convertor failure
It seems to me that for the motor to brake rather than accelerate when power is applied, some coils have to be connected in reverse to the others. It is not just a matter of connecting the coils in the proper configuration, you have to connect the proper ends of the coils. This should be the case if...

Re: OT metric threads
You could just as well make a pencil mark on the ways before disengaging the half nuts. Your re-positioning only has to be accurate enough to hit the right thread on the leadscrew (+/- 0.125" on an 8 TPI screw).

Re: Need tp locate small Pentagon female bits or sockets
I suggested that because I have heated worn out Phillips screwdrivers and hammered them into new screw slots and it restored the tip shape pretty well.

Re: Don't know how to thread on this lathe
I am happy that you found the way to change the leadscrew drive on the right side. I thought for a long time that there had to be something in that area that was missing. I believe all that remains is to get the gears (and the metric shaft) on the left side correct. I think I had that figured out at...

Re: Don't know how to thread on this lathe
After watching the video again, I have a new idea. I believe the lower shaft cap on the right side has a piece behind it which will connect the upper shaft to that unknown function gear. It may be a rotating part of the cap or it may be a separate part. If it is a separate part, remove it and instal...

Re: Don't know how to thread on this lathe
Your movies have helped my understanding somewhat. Keep in mind that the drive to the leadscrew has to go through the stack of different size gears (which I call the cone gears). The missing piece of the puzzle for metric threading definitely includes the gear on the right side which is connected to...

Re: Q: What chemical bonds rubber to metal the strongest?
"Super Glue" will bond some types of rubber to metal. Which type, meth or cyan ? It has been quite a while but I seem to remember that the original cyan glues were used in making O-rings from neoprene stock and there was some discussion that using rubber as a flexible interface between gl...

Re: Creative version of a 3 phase switch?
A two pole switch on a three phase motor is unsafe and not permitted by any codes I know of but it works perfectly well.

Re: Why People Prefer Imperial to Metric
When my boys and I first got dune buggy and Rabbit VW's we found that we could manage most fasteners with imperial tools except for the 10MM ones. Metric tools were not common here but we bought a 10MM socket and combination wrench. Later, we found a set of combination wrenches at K-Mart and bought ...

Re: Removing bridgeport pulley nut
If you need something stronger, an old socket is good for making that kind of tool. You can also braze or weld pins to the outside of a pipe or socket.

Re: Need tp locate small Pentagon female bits or sockets
It might be feasible to make a copy of the screw and use it to hot forge a fitting socket.
