Re: Thoughts on letting other people run your locomotive

I can personally attest to the statement that getting to run a locomotive really sets the hook. I was hooked my first time seeing the hobby when Joe Holbrook let me run his Southern Crescent PS-4 on my first visit to the Canton, St. Paul, & Pacific Railway several years ago. I got to run John B.'s s...

Re: Copper Boiler, Scrap or Salvage

Soft solder can be scraped off or you can melt it off and use a solder wick to get the soft solder off. I cant help with replacing the soft solder with something else.

Re: Bob Maynard's CliShay -- Progress and Updates.

For what its worth, one of our past members was building a scaled up Kozo Climax a number of years ago and he also got a chance to look at the prototype class A. He said the Kozo trucks (a class B?) appeared to be the same as the ones for the A. At some point, the Climax Locomotive Works change the...

Re: Could not share this video !!

Mike, it's an excellent video. I thought it was made by a professional company hired to make it. Maybe you should do one from the engineers perspective of your locomotive.

Re: Live Steam Club Help!

Welcome to the hobby and the forum! Here's a list of clubs all over the county: http://discoverlivesteam.com/A-clubs.htm . This site also has a for sale page if you decide to look at used models. I, along with many other people, would recommend starting in the scale and gauge you really want to. I j...

Re: Thoughts on throttle design?

Is there a particular book or website of plans for throttles? I know this is a question I will have when my Shay reaches that point. Jim, could I get a copy of the drawings for the two stage poppet valve? It looks like an interesting valve, so I am curious to how it works and would build one to unde...

What numbers are everyone using? It could be the number has changed. If not, try calling from a different number or use *67 before the number to block caller ID from identifying you.

That's ok. Those plans may come in handy once it's time to start making cars to pull. Any little tips and tricks are always helpful.

Re: 20 Ton Shay construction summer camp

i have a file on building arch bar trucks and will send it to you. if you make the jigs they show it will be much easier and come out better. I've got John's drawings. Are the jigs for arch bar trucks on freight cars or are they for the Shay? John's arch bars look like they'll be pretty simple to b...
