I've got a couple of those. I'm guessing when it comes to using them, though.GlennW wrote: ↑Sun Mar 25, 2018 2:26 pm Here's an example of a dressing stick for white aluminum oxide (and other)vitrified wheels on a bench grinder.

Ok. I read the entire thread. Very educational.
I have a 1"x1"x6" dressing stick. Now, exactly how do I *use* it?

Ok.
What kind of dressing stick do you use and what do you mean by "dressing stick"? Seems like the term gets applied to everything that is ever used to dress a stone.

Very nice. A comment, however: it is better not to use snap-action switches where you need precise repeatibility. They seem nice and crisp but they are actually not as repeatible as simple contacts.
I like the swinging toolholder idea.

Re: Wheels to axles — which Loctite?
Diamond dressing for offhand grinding isn't a good idea, due to the fact that a diamond creates a totally smooth (although sharp) surface. It tends to act like a bearing, floating on the surface of the item being ground, or, in this case, polished. When it does cut, it does so by creating a lot mor...

Re: Do you guys do wooden parts on your mill/drill or metal lathe?
My Napolean cannon model project requires many of the walnut parts to closely fit the metal parts. Hmmm. I'm just like a kid at Christmas when it comes to muzzle loading cannon. I've loved 'em since I was a kid. Do you have any pictures you can share? I'd enjoy seeing anything you have, even if it ...

Beryllium copper is safe as long as you do nothing with it that would generate airborn dust.

A spindle chuck isn't exactly a drill chuck. It threads onto the lathe spindle just as a regular chuck does and has a bore to match that of the lathe.

Re: Need a way to turn a 30 tpi screw.
I agree that there's no point in obsessing over 3-jaw runout, but I find it quite convenient that my Jacobs spindle chuck has a runout of less than .001" over most of it's range. For most purposes I can treat it like a continuously variable collet.
