Re: Screeching Sound When Milling
Thanks. I'll try shorter stickout and 2 flutes. The only problem with 2 flutes is that the channel cut is only the first cut in a longer operation where all the rest of the cutting is on one side of the cutter with 50% stepover. As such, the channel cut doesn't need to be accurate either. I can move...

Screeching Sound When Milling
I'm fairly new to CNC milling, although I have successfully made a number of parts now. I'm having trouble with loud screeching sounds during certain cuts. So loud I have to cover my ears. Using a 1/2" 4 flute carbide cutter on 1018 steel. Cutting a 100% groove at .1" deep. 2500 rpm, 25 IP...

Re: Identify an air fitting
You had the right one Bill. Parker was able to find it for me. I had no idea there were so many thread types. This one happened to be on a Chinese air switch. Thanks much. rex

Identify an air fitting
I got a new fog buster coolant system for my milling machine. The only problem is that my Millport milling machine seems to have a different air fitting thread than I've seen before. The fog buster wants to connect with a 1/4" NPT. However, the thread on the machine's air switch is slightly sma...

Re: 10 Wheeler
Thanks Cary. Great information. On further study, I see that #26 was scrapped out, but there's a #25 10-wheeler still in existence in Carson City. Looks very similar to #26. I think #27 has the old-timey stack; parked inside a cyclone fence in Nevada with a marker stone. Those are great looking engi...

Re: 10 Wheeler
BTW, I didn't mean I saw these engines in Truckee; I just found out about them upon investigation.
