You could put it in the lathe and mount a broach on the compound.
Using the chuck for indexing.

To all that work so Hard here! I have a few freinds who think I am so smart, because I am almost always able to give them an inteligent answer about machine related stuff. I often tell them I ain't that smart, it's just that I know where the library is. You folks are my library, and thanks for makin...

Yeah Paul , I considered that very thing, and that is probably what we will do. The machine is a 2004 JD backhoe, and not mine so I don,t know all the details. Just been running it for my friend who is a cancer victim. Here is what I considered: A; JB weld, B: weld up build on the tapered shank C; ,...

Tie Rod ? Slightly OT

Tie rod on a John Deere, 4 wd , nut on the tie rod end apparently backed off and started to wallow out the tapered hole. The unit with the hole cost about 2500$ Any ideas on a cheaper fix? The knuckle seems to be cast steel? and I am wondering if it is weldable? Any ideas before we tear into this th...

I agree with Jim. Years ago a friend gave me a " ShopSmith". You know one of those tablesaw, woodlathe, drillpress things. The damn thing wasn,t worth a &^%*&. By the time I switched from one setup to the next I would get totally frustrated. Dedicated machinery is the way to go. Be i...

Spindle runout ?

I am considering a collet system for my 16X60 Sebastian. I had a new spindle made for it a few years back, and after getting it all together I had runout of 1- to 1 1/2 thou on the inside of the spindle. It was machined to accept a Morse 3 1/2 X mt3 sleeve. My question is, what would be the correct ...

Rebar comes in various grades, 40 , 60, etc. 60 is real springy and hard to bend. If its made to spec that is. But today all bets are off cause they make it out of whatever is available ( ships in India ) etc.
Don't ask how I know.

John, That tag may be a machine dealers tag. My old Cinc. #1 has such a tag ( Dealer in San Francisco ) from way back when 1915 or so. How about some pics. There should be some numbers etc stamped on the machine front . ( the regular letter/number type ) As well as a manufacturers logo. Good luck wi...
