Re: Reading rotary table????

...4 revolutions of the handwheel = 4 * 4 deg/revolution = 16 deg. You meant 22 revolutions. For N holes in the bolt circle... 360/N = angular separation between holes = A A/4 = a number that looks like I.F where I = intger = full turns of the wheel, F = fraction = Fractional turns of the wheel.......

Reading rotary table????

No matter how hard I try, I always seem to screw up the angle-setting on my rotary table! It is 90 turnes of the handwheel for 360 degree rotation = 4 degrees per rotation of the handwheel The major scale on the handwheel is marked 0, 1, 2, 3 = 1 degree per indication. The minor divisions on t...

Pipe thread sealant?

What do ya'll use for "pipe dope" on model size threaded steam pipes? I used to use "Master's Metallic" compound on everything from full-size steam to models and it work 100% but it is hard to find now. I have tried all kinds of thread sealing products from many different outlets...

I seriously doubt that could EVER be proven! There is FAR more in common between men and women than is different, though I will concede that the effects of testosterone on the young male brain does some strange things

Re: Women in the hobby?

3% comes from a couple of sources.

I got my Steam Traction Engine license many years ago. My ticket is #113 and at that time we identified 4 female operators.

My live steam club has about 50 members and there are only 2 active operators.

In terms of builders, I am the only one locally.

Re: Women in the hobby?

One of the most talented model builders to ever walk the planet is Cherry Hill. Her work is spectacular. Here is a link , truly inspirational! http://speedreaders.info/15592-cherrys-model-engines-story-remarkable-cherry-hill/ Jack There's a book I will HAVE to buy! Even at my age it is good to have...

Re: Women in the hobby?

I have been told "Why yes, we have a women's auxiliary, they sew and hold bake sales and make lunch"..... One would have hoped that kind of attitude would have died out after WWII! Interesting about the EAA! In 1977 to 1980 I rebuilt a wrecked 1946 Aeronca Champ to type-certified and flin...

Re: Women in the hobby?

In all that time, I have met one female computer programmer, and have never encountered any woman who knows anything about assembly language, chip registers or any of that sort of stuff—all things that I routinely work with ,,,,, Oh I LOVED Assembly language and micro processing! I worked in that f...

Women in the hobby?

I have been involved in steam since childhood (which was a LONG time ago!) and noticed that, no matter where I am or what aspect of the hobby I have been involved in, only about 3% of active live steamers are women. I wonder why that is? As a child, I was fascinated by these gigantic machines that c...
