Re: 12” gauge DRGW Inspired RR
I may use this same design of the frame and bolster for the other freight cars as well. It will allow for ease of fabrication and repair. One charge of the boater design I’m considering, is to replace the 1/4” plate bolster with 1.5”x 3” rectangle tubing, notched into the sills. This would allow the...

Re: 12” gauge DRGW Inspired RR
Trash-gons draft gear/bolsters are finished. Had to route a relief in the two center sills to allow for the welds along the side of the coupler tube. Bolsters will have a 1”center pin, and will be bolted to the frame with through bolts, counter sunk from the top side of the sills. Also got all the q...

If you’re wanting to hide the horns, and have a big locomotive sound, you might look at the
Mega Blast PVC horns.

Lol! Keep that crew busy!
I’m using oak. Had some left over oak lumber laying around the shop, and used it to build the under frame a deck boards. It will need to be sealed and painted to weather proof.

Re: 12” gauge DRGW Inspired RR
The mig welder I had on loan had to be returned. Unfortunately, that means the 50tonner is on hold. Plus I’m waiting on some custom cut parts to arrive. While waiting for some funds to purchase a mig, think I’ll get back on the 3” scale DRGW Trash-gon project which has been sitting neglected for qui...

Re: Kubota diesel engine
I have a a Kubota 2cyl Diesel engine I’m planning to use in my 3” scale GE50 ton build.
The engine will be couple to a HST to provide power to the wheels.

Re: Flange bearings instead of axle boxes
I’m using take up bearings for my build. The 50ton sideframes were laser cut from 1/2” plate. Equalizer bars cut from 1/4” plate, and use bronze bushings between the bar and the sideframe. Chevy valve springs worked out right for the suspension set up. Used some modified 1.25” take up bearings for w...

Re: 12” gauge DRGW Inspired RR
I ended up using little pieces of flat stock and extended the round through it just like you did. Then I used #4 stainless TEK screws to attach them. Ha! I went back through your build page looking at photos of your loco, sure enough, I’ve unknowingly came to the same conclusion on grabs irons. You...

Re: 12” gauge DRGW Inspired RR
Curtiss, is that your locomotive body in that handle picture? If so, the details are looking great. No, not my loco. That is a 2.5” scale is a GE center cab belonging to Michael Duffy. He is the one that has the printed handles available. Today I made up one of the cut levers, and mounting brackets...

Re: 12” gauge DRGW Inspired RR
Thanks. Quite a difference in size! Sounds like Shapeways pricing is geared exclusively to HO scale modelers. Not sure I will go forward with any more printing... Glenn Yeah there is a lot of small scale stuff, however there is quite a lot of 1.5” and 2.5” products as well. If you’re looking for sc...

Re: 12” gauge DRGW Inspired RR
Glenn, Here is a picture of your 3” long version compared to some 2.5” handles. My 3” scale handles are slightly bigger that 2.5” version. Duffy posted a video on the 2.5” FB page of the bigger version with a catch that operates like the real deal. Pretty slick! Makes me wish I had printed a few in ...
