Re: Mentor says Maximat, little nervous
It's also disengenuous to combine that statement with a generic comment suggesting that materials from delrin to tool steel can be worked within .0005 inch. To clarify: I personally have milled steels and aluminium to those tolerances with my 3-in-1. Eventually. I've also had my failures -- all par...

Re: Mentor says Maximat, little nervous
Torch, you are dreadfully optimistic on the capabilities of 3-1's. Yep, they can even cut metal. I would amend that to read "they can even cut metal accurately " As for capacity, if you need a bigger machine, then you need a bigger machine -- of course, that applies for separate ma...

Re: Mentor says Maximat, little nervous
I will be exploring options besides the combination machines too, Good idea. I'm fairly new at this home machinist thing, but I suspect that the "right choice" of equipment and tooling depends a lot on the individual and their circumstances, much like the choice of, say, a motorcycle is h...

Re: Spindle bearings and pre-load
The spec is 15-25 in/lbs rotating for new bearings and 8-12 for used. I installed new bearings with the new spindle and I've re-adjusted the bearings twice now after finding a few tenths play after a few hours of use. My assumption is that I was not aggressive enough in the original preload and the...

Re: Where to buy Collets and Clamping Kit ?
Where is a good place to buy a set of R8 Collets and a Clamping kit ? Oh, and Mill bits for Aluminum Thanks When I started collecting tools in anticipation of my new machine's delivery, I bought a clamping kit locally. Turns out it originated in China. First one I got featured an MT rod with thread...

I don't know anything about electrolytic grinding machines or the top tool in the picture, but the bottom one looks just like the pliers the farrier uses to remove the old shoes and/or trim the hooves prior to rasping.paulmars wrote:2-pics attached

Yeah, I don't think I'd have much time left over for visiting if I took an afternoon to ride over. Good luck with it, and let us know what it turns out to be.ealanm wrote:Thanks very much for the offer, but I'm in Surrey, BC -- about as far from Muskoka as one can get and still be in Canada!

Re: B2229/G9729 Power-on CB Tripping
This is a brand new machine. It has been in my shop about two weeks, has about ten hours on it, and started this behaviour within a few hours of the first time I started it up. So I don't think it's a wear or contamination issue, it's an "infant mortality" failure of some kind -- perhaps ...

Re: B2229/G9729 Power-on CB Tripping
That is, it trips as soon as I hit the start button, with both motor switches in the off position. There's a brief flash of the power light and a clunk from the CB -- or perhaps it's actually a relay. Anyway, it trips immediately. Sometimes I have to reset the E-stop button and try starting five or...

Re: B2229/G9729 Power-on CB Tripping
Wow, that Grizzly manual is way better than the manual I got with my Craftex! Thanks for the link. Unfortunately, I still can't find the actual microswitches -- none of them. The Craftex and the Grizzly are very similar -- but not necessarily identical. Plus there can be changes and refinements in ...

To ensure the fraction can be broken down without changing the number of turns or adding graduations from the Vernier scale I have set up callback #****** and forwarded your information to the appropriate department to research further. You will be contacted within 1-2 business days with further in...
