I cheat! I use a stainless cutting oil in the flood system on my lathe. 304 likes that as does pre-hard 4140.

Probably a year or two ago I ran across a site from a chemical company that sold a citric acid based product for passivating stainless that looked interesting.

I switched to 304 and haven't seen any rust since. Nicer finish as well.

The only way you are going to figure any of this out is to bend a test piece.

If the shape in the first post is what you are trying to bend, you might not be able to do it with your brake depending on which direction the bends are.
