Re: Jet 1236P
Yep BDD is 100% correct. Fwiw, and this doesn't seem to be commonly known. My industrial supplier who sold me my VFD told me there's a separate and distinct Asian based industrial motor standard that doesn't match up with any Imperial or Metric based motor standards we have for our available off the...

Re: Mill Gibs
4" on the SPI John, memory dimensions only on the B&S (it's packed up) I seem to recall about 2 1/2"- 2 3/4". To be perfectly honest, I think a completely usable CS could be made using schedule 80 pipe. 160 would be even better not only for the heavier walls but more weight, proba...

Re: Mill Gibs
I have a B&S 558 cylindrical square that's about 6" long and an SPI 12" model John. The B&S can do what most other CS's can't, and it can actually measure how far something might be out of square. Or on items less than about .002" out it can. And sometimes knowing how much it'...

Re: Mill Gibs
You really need to post a couple of pictures of exactly what you have Bill. Even a scan of a page from your user manual that shows the gib and it's adjustment parts would help. At this point the rest of us are just going by your rough description it's what you have. I'd much rather it's 100% sure th...

Re: Mill Gibs
Well because of the vertical orientation on that knee gib, I'll double my caution about being careful with tightening it Bill. There's been a few posts on the PM forums of people that for a few reasons broke that gibs large end off and then tried to move the knee up. From those posts you DON'T ever ...

Re: Mill spindle mt#3 - what’s my options ?
At a guess, that slot is probably intended for when MT drill shanks are being used that don't have drawbar threads. So the same idea and method is used with an extraction wedge and what gets done on drill press spindles to force the shank loose.

Re: Mill Gibs
The description you used in your OP I was fairly sure but not positive indicated it only has screws on each end, if so that should be a tapered gib. I asked not to confuse things, but just to be 100% sure of what you had Bill. Also I forgot to mention, it depends on the material the gib is made from...

Re: Mill Gibs
Since you didn't say I still have to ask to be sure, you do mean for tapered gibs right? How I figured out how to do it was the one screw at the gibs fat end is the only one that's doing the adjustment. Loosen the one at the gibs small end a bit, then start adjusting the other end in as you check th...

Re: Mill spindle mt#3 - what’s my options ?
Yes it does, You'd already know it, but others might not have thought about this. The MT's shank does have to be the correct length to do so. Just any MT that does fit the tail stock doesn't automatically mean it can be used as is. I have some MT 3 mill tooling from my older smaller mill that I'll s...

Re: South Bend heavy 10
Apparently there's a fair number of lathes with spindle bore sizes in the MT 4-5 range and Harrison from the UK being only one of them that used on some of there lathe models what's loosely described as an intermediate 1/2 taper that falls between the two sizes. Most or maybe all I think I've seen m...

Re: South Bend heavy 10
???? While I could be wrong, I've never seen any properly sized and fitting Male MT extend that far out while it's fully seated. To me that sure looks like it's one size up than what the female taper no. is.
