Re: Derailments

A series of cars have been taken out of service until wheel sets can be replaced. After the toxic derailment in Ohio. A report was published that mention overheate...

Re: Sheet steel tender tank sealant

...possibly galvanized. Take a look at galvanneal. You get the protection of galvanized with a surface that takes paint well. I have a tender 30+ years old made from galvanneal. The seams were riveted and soft soldered. The sheared edges inside the tank need protection. They are covered with a two ...

Re: A good reliable injector for inch & half scale that works ????

If the injector is indeed the problem and some TLC doesn't clear it up look at Eccentric Engineer or SuperScal...

Re: St. Louis train museum

Mr. Ron, The museum has done a nice job installing pavement so a good part of the railroad collection is reachable by scooter. There are some under the big shed that is ballast between the tracks. The plane and auto collection is indoors. The museum is actually near Kirkwood well west of St Louis. W...

Re: Talk about Lone Wolf

I’ve managed to witness my grandchildren operate their Great, Great, Grandfather’s miniature railroad. How many folks out there can claim such a milestone? I can think of two guys who have seen their great grand children ride their railroad but I can't think of any at five generations. It's an admi...

Re: filling a hot boiler

Jim I am curious why you would hold the water in the boiler while swapping out the blow down. The answer might be as simple as "that's the way I do it". At zero pressure with nothing else open the water wouldn't gush out. It would address the original post filling a hot boiler. Brevity, or...

Re: filling a hot boiler

It's common for my blow downs to drip as Jim describes and seal as soon as there is a little pressure behind them. Cycling them a couple times usually helps. Once however I had one leaking to the point it would be a race between keeping water in the glass and getting the injector on. Cycling the val...

Re: filling a hot boiler

This is also characteristic of the prototype. In all fairness to aopagary, the valve did have fairly good leak at 50 psi consisting of a steady stream of drops, but nothing I felt would inhibit operation or in keeping the water level where it should be. I have a pair of Super Scale blowdowns and th...
