Re: 1942 Army loco. 2/5 scale.

John, You’ve done a remarkable job putting together that Malcolm Moore engine. Amazing detail. The more I look at the construction detail of the old original world war one trench engines I realize How much of it was simply channel iron cut apart and riveted together. Simple quick and efficient, just...

Re: Buying fasteners

I’ve had mixed responses from local Fastenal stores here in the Seattle area. The one time I really needed an odd ball item, the lady at the counter of their biggest store gave it to me for free. Then at another store I paid way over the top for one each paint pen - the kind that marks on rusty stee...

Re: liability Insurance

Ryan, yep, tough to do a seasonal setup, such as a Christmas train for the public. Unless one commits to a six week run and plans on doing some kind of additional commercial setup in the summer. Hard to justify $3k annual policy for only a week or two effort. But at least for backyard railroading, o...

Re: liability Insurance

One more follow up re: liability insurance. I have just learned that my homeowner’s policy does in fact cover backyard railroading. I insure through USAA. I talked to them twice and confirmed USAA writes what are known as “All Risk” policies. Meaning they cover all risks associated with my homeowner...

Re: Woodinville Shops

Ryan, I’ll try Sunday afternoon. I can bring the side frames also, if you are still interested in swapping them out.

Re: Woodinville Shops

Ryan, I think the trucks were taken off the missing Ottaway passenger car. They look identical. Very small and undersized for the frame and body. I’ll probably leave the body the same width and height, just do I have time to work On the much bigger job to restore the old 1904 Campbell 4-4-0. A nice ...

Re: liability Insurance

Just received a comment on Facebook about a potential third insurance vendor. For those who are interested, the agency is McRail Insurance. Ask for Tripp.

They have a web site that states they specialize in Railroad insurance.

Re: 1942 Army loco. 2/5 scale.

John, seems like a lot of similarities between your Australian 24” sugar cane and WW2 railroading equipment and the 600 mm trench railway equipment of WW1. Just wondering if you have researched the WW1 trench railway history at all? It’s really quite fascinating how much detail is preserved, and to ...

Re: Woodinville Shops

Pretty good weekend so far. Laid in 16’ of cribbing and fill, then finalized grade for the third car siding leading off the turntable. Today hoisted and blocked the poor old Yard Goat up off the ground and pushed her onto the turntable in preparation for a move onto the soon to be new third siding. ...

Re: Spring rigging question

Ken, I see no one has replied to your inquiry. You might PM Russ Noe aka NP317. Russ may be familiar with the prototype design you are asking about.

Good luck. Very interesting question about construction detail.

Re: Spark arrester design

Steve and Pat, Thanks much for your design ideas and photos. Both are very interesting. I bought some bronze mesh to experiment with, mostly as it was readily available with no waiting time to acquire. Will be firing up the Loco over the next day or two to experiment and see what happens. Will post ...
