Re: Never enough time

"Oooohhwhats a closet auger? "

You don't want to know.

Or, if you are a landlord, you probably already know. Sometimes the
best way to unclog plumbing is not to stuff what's gumming up the
works, farther down there.

Get one from General, with the roller ball head.

Definitely don't peck on material that thin. Doubt you'll get inch long chips though no
matter what you do! :)

My favorite is Guhring drills. High cobalt for this job. Unless you have a microscope
to see what you are doing when sharpening, I'd suggest the drills are disposable items.

Re: Never enough time

I actually bought that tap. Just for doorknobs. It's an old house thing. For a while I was buying glass by the full box. Till I got all the windows fixed up. Spro, some folks move into houses where everything works. All the doors shut and stay shut, open and stay open. Nothing comes apart, nothing f...

Re: End of an era

Awfully hard to go to school if you've been out of work for a year. Seems to me that unemployment benefits get spend right away, go back into the economy. Give the rich folks a tax break, that money will go into savings right now. Not the best given the danger of a depression. If you foks really wan...

Re: How Would You Dismantle a VN #12 to Move into the Baseme

Amazing what a coat of paint and a general clean-up will do. Good luck on the move downstairs. Remember, do NOT put yourself or anyone else under the load while it is under lift. Or, anywhere where the load might land. Follow those rules and the worse that can happen is broken cast iron. Lots cheape...

Re: End of an era

"Demand, the products that workers buy control the economy every day, with what they buy." My understanding is that about 2/3 of america's GDP is consumer spending. No job, no paycheck, no spending. Another board has an active thread running, about how good an 8 dollar per hour wage is for...

Re: Never enough time

"He lost the set screw out of an antique door handle, and now the door wont open." Years ago my daughter's room had the doorknob unscrewing all the time. Finally she managed to get it loose, and the shaft and the exterior knob popped out into the hallway. Much drama. In a fit of pique, I c...

Re: Improving 3-Jaw Chuck Runout

I feel the same way about my four jaw chucks!

But the point is well taken, if ever I felt obliged to purchase a three
jaw scroll chuck, it would be with two-piece jaws.

Re: 4 Jaw chuck.

Another approach for this job is to turn between centers. Often the bodge of using a chuck at one end,
and a center at the other, produces uncertain results.

Hey Nelson, we're still waiting to see if the eagle has landed - in your basement!
Let us know how the project is going, we're all curious.

Re: Metric tapers, need help

There are other kinds of tapers that closely match MT1, but are not. One kind is called a Jarno, and is often seen on older equipment. Another kind is the proprietary taper that is found on old hardinge cataract lathes. A machinery handbook would spell out the details of the Jaron one, and I think t...
