The chuck on my Le Blond has a Zerk on it. So grease or oil?

Thanks for all of the excellent information and suggestions. Certainly, the notion of using a turned center in the chuck is very appealing as I don't have a face plate for the lathe. If that's one less thing to buy, so much the better! So let's talk live centers for a minute. Since I don't have one ...

Cleaning, degreasing equipment

Anyone have any tips on good, safe, not too noxious cleaners for de-greasing a machine? Nothing is too heavily encrusted, it is mostly just oil film.

Sounds like Jim Kreider is your first option. You might also contact the Allen County Historical Society, in Lima, OH -- they got some of the Lima archives.

I kind of like seeing a name on my tools. It tells me that the owner valued them and probably made his living with them. I have some of my grandfather's and father's tools and I'm really glad those have their names on them.
