Re: 3/4" Scale J1e

Here is the finished crosshead guide. And then a tiny little bit of tube. There are holes in the fire doors and the prototype had just plain holes without a raised lip. To me this just doesn't look right, they should have that detail. So these little bushings were made and set into recesses .070&qu...

Re: 3/4" Scale J1e

Re: 3/4" Scale J1e

jack, just for sharing. here is what ours look like on our 5344. pretty neat for what they are. the doors used to be manually operated but the gears inside wore out due to lack of lubrication which we never knew until too late after 20 years. now it's just a simple flip down and flip up door. we can...

Re: 3/4" Scale J1e

Now here is what it's for. This is for a lever that will be part of the right hand door pivot. The door pivots on the large boss on the right. A link from the left hand door pushes down on the small boss here on the left and opens the door. Tomorrow I will make the left hand door pivot which has tw...

Re: tie work

I only tamp with the air tamper on the outside edges of the ties. all I do in the center is put mini scoops of ballast in the center of the tie and pack it down solid with my mini scoop. it's very effective and makes a big difference cuz when I stand on the track with my own body weight to see how s...

Re: tie work

Any concerns regarding the vertical height of the plastic tie being shorter than the wooden tie? Or are you using the tall tie? I like the idea of the tall unit with the foot.. well sadly accu tie is only making the tall ties for 7.5 gauge right now, but the smaller ties as far as vertical height. ...

Re: tie work

Congratulations, Dan, on your continued major effort to replace wood ties with plastic. It will inevitably demonstrate the falicy of dominate thinking in some clubs that plastic ties are "too expensive." What will those misguided club officials do when their sacred wood ties inevitably ro...

Re: Cement ties

Thanks Danny, after reviewing the panel idea with Rick we rejected it and decided to go with individual ties. There are 24 in place out by the 1-1/2" car barn, check them out and let me know what you think. John I was looking around the yard/servicing area cuz that's where I thought you took t...

on to victory

well I was working hard yesterday. I did 42 more ties yesterday. my new counts are 2,250 ties replaced and 9,000 screws replaced. also seen are my stock piles of still usable ties for future track projects, sidings, car barn tracks, etc etc. im almost up to the signal on the uphill grade.
