Re: Investment Casting Costs

Try Valley Brass and Bronze in Fresno. They have done work for some of us and also make HO and O scale parts. The owner is quite a skilled modeler himself. http://tracksidedetails.com/tmContactUs.php Thanks for the tip. I'll give Valley Brass and Bronze a try. Dave I talked to Dave Sciacca at Valle...

Re: Investment Casting Costs

I have been looking into investment casting. But the entry fee and learning curve have put me off. I've been casting low temperature alloys in silicon molds with all in all good success. However, I now need somethings stronger in brass and/or bronze. I can make the patterns and 3D print the waxes. ...

3D Printing Forum

I'd like to revisit the idea of a 3D printing forum. In a quick search it looks like the last time the idea came up it was 8 to 10 years ago. 3D printing, and the associated solid modeling, have become a more integral part of today's model engineering. For myself I use it for printing try-out or tes...

Re: Copper Boiler life

I would add that 40 years ago a hobby-wide campaign to eliminate sil-phos from boiler building had been underway for some time, however many die-hard old hands, and a few propagandized new hands, continued to disregard those warnings. So yours could actually go either way, and there are ways to tel...

Copper Boiler life

I recently acquired a LE 1" Atlantic with a copper boiler. I was told the last time the loco was steamed was 40 years ago. The boiler was silver soldered. Is there a life expectancy for a silver soldered copper boiler? I have always thought the copper to be a lifetime material. But what about t...

Re: Little Engines 1" Atlantic

According to the LE catalog #100, print #18 is "Tender Frame Assembly", although I found a reference to a print #18 as '1" Scale Tender or Car Truck' Thanks for the information. I think print #18 is significant to me since the tender trucks had been removed, disassembled, and in a bo...

Little Engines 1" Atlantic

I recently acquired a Little Engines 1" Atlantic in derelict condition. It appears to be complete. But, sat in a shop/garage for 40 years. It came with a set of prints that are complete except for #18. Can anyone tell me what #18 describes and if is significant. If significant can anyone supply...

Re: Turbulators on propane boiler

Dave Can you post a drawing of what exactly you did in the smoke box with the stack? I apologize for the delay, but here, at long last, is the drawing you asked for. I've tried to give you a comprehensive reply so included sone additional information. I would think that the dimensions should propor...
