Re: Double Vertical Check Valve
do you want something 'prototype realistic' or something functional? Good question because I'm not building a model of any prototype. I thought it would be more realistic to have one that is like some prototype. I don't care of the insides are prototypical. I am going to use it as a boiler feed che...

Re: Double Vertical Check Valve
Yes, double inlet and poppet valves. In addition these things have a shutoff valve for each inlet. There is one outlet.

Double Vertical Check Valve
I need to build a double vertical check valve for an engine I'm building. I have drawings of the Sellers version. There were several makers, Nathan, Hancock, Edna, and a couple others. I am having a rather difficult time imagining how to make the core for the body casting, or how to build up the val...

Re: Finding a Lost Locomotive
Ellen at Redwood Valley RR seems to know about all the 15" gauge people and engines. You might get in touch with her and ask.JerryK

Re: dual pressure gauge wanted
Must it be dual individual sweep? There are lots of dual needle gauges available in the 25-50 dollar range, though finding the correct diameter does seem to be a bit of a chore. I wonder if you could cut one down to the proper size? Here's 2" http://www.viaircorp.com/2_0_dual_gauge.html Well, ...

Re: dual pressure gauge wanted
Doing a Tineye search on the image revealed a site in N.J. that sells it as a commercial espresso maker part. There are five variations listed at $80 or a bit more. Between 1/3 and 1/2 way down the page. All are the same pressure. http://www.1st-line.com/store/pc/showsearchresults.asp?IDBrand=3&...

Re: What paint to use for a locomotive?
I use rustoleum if the color is correct on everything except the frame and smokebox. Lately, I've used VHT 1200 on smokeboxs. Previously, I've used Satin Black from Techline Coatings. The Satin Black and VHT are ceramic coatings and will hold up well, provided they aren't put on too thick. I have me...

Re: Welshpool & Llanfair open wagons
Jerry, interesting how similar these wagons are to the 600mm (24" ga) WW 1 rolling stock used by the UK War Department to re supply the front, just a few years earlier. Glenn, they are not similar at all. I do have some drawings of a US 600mm 8" rail gun and support train, however. An exa...

Re: Welshpool & Llanfair open wagons
Jerry, I would love to see those plans if you want to share. I am assuming that is a narrow gauge prototype as well? I'm happy to share, but you'll have to PM me your email address since some of the files are large. The plans would get you the dimensions of most of the metal parts for 7 1/2" g...

Re: Welshpool & Llanfair open wagons
Hello everyone, Any British and Welsh rolling stock fans out there, I have an interest in building reasonably accurate models of the Welshpool & Llanfair light RY 2’6” gauge gondola wagons. I intend to build them to run on 7.5" gauge track. I have plans for a "wood Wagon", that i...

Re: Smokebox number plate
I'd be nervous about blasting it. The metal could be too soft (zinc?) and you could end up making things worse. I'd use paint remover to clean it. I don't think the heat is as bad as you might think. I did a test some years ago of about a dozen engines and reported here that the typical temperature...
