Re: Building the Bellevue and Cascade Railroad Ox in 2 1/2 scale

Hello BC!! Original plan was to put a Kohler 8 horsepower in cab couple to Eaton hydrostatic 11 pump then a single hydraulic motor between the axles. New plan is to experiment with a motor on each axle 24 volt if not successful I will put a single motor with 2 horsepower and a 4 QD controller.

Re: Building the Bellevue and Cascade Railroad Ox in 2 1/2 scale

Finally decided to go with tapered roller bearings on the axles but the inner diameter on the bearings would not allow me to use my real trains Wheels! So I must order new steel for wheels and axles so I should be back working on this by the middle of April

Re: price of mild steel in Europe today

Here in Ohio it's about 75 to 85 a pound depending on grade of Steel so your stuff over there in Germany sounds pretty affordable that's what they usually charge for cut-offs 50 cents a pound

Re: Turning Hot Rolled Mild Steel

I use an Armstrong tool holder that was meant to be used with brazed carbide cutters, only I use quarter inch high speed Steel with a real nice curve radius I think the radius was 3/8 ? But you can take a pretty good cut and leave a good finish surface to my surprise
