Ordered 1 inch by 8 inch bar stock 8 inches long 4 pieces to cut the Wheels out of on the rotary table, Plus 1 3/8
Cold rolled for the axles will pick up Friday if you're wondering how much the steel cost 3 dollars

Hello BC!! Original plan was to put a Kohler 8 horsepower in cab couple to Eaton hydrostatic 11 pump then a single hydraulic motor between the axles. New plan is to experiment with a motor on each axle 24 volt if not successful I will put a single motor with 2 horsepower and a 4 QD controller.

Finally decided to go with tapered roller bearings on the axles but the inner diameter on the bearings would not allow me to use my real trains Wheels! So I must order new steel for wheels and axles so I should be back working on this by the middle of April

Here in Ohio it's about 75 to 85 a pound depending on grade of Steel so your stuff over there in Germany sounds pretty affordable that's what they usually charge for cut-offs 50 cents a pound

The motor RPMs is 1750, the small pulley diameter on the motor is 1-3/4,2-1/8,2-5/8,3-1/8 with 1/2 inch bore, the upper pulley is 3-1/8,3-5/8,4,4-1/2 with 3/4 bore, hope this helps you

I use an Armstrong tool holder that was meant to be used with brazed carbide cutters, only I use quarter inch high speed Steel with a real nice curve radius I think the radius was 3/8 ? But you can take a pretty good cut and leave a good finish surface to my surprise
