Re: Machine Run Time
I built a pulley driven high speed spindle (30,000rpm) from an ER11 collet chuck on a 10mm straight shank and ran it from the main 7000rpm spindle of my machine with a pulley and round polyurethane belt. Once you grasp the concept it's not difficult to design something to suit any machine.

Re: Rough cuts first?
Roughing cuts are to remove a large amount of material quickly before finishing, if they cause issues with flex or resonance it's either not appropriate for the job or alternate tooling/techniques are required. I make a Titanium part which reqires a 2" length of 1/4" material to be reduced...

Re: Huanyang VFD 2.2
Buying cheap equipment is a crap shoot, but if you have no pressing need to use it, and can afford the time to sort out a problematic unit if you get one or the cost to replace it if it fails and is badly supported may as well take a punt on the cheap units.

Re: Re heat treating mild steel
Stamped and formed brackets and panels in Mild Steel exhibit Work Hardening, not Heat Treatment, but annealing them returns them to the soft state losing any additional hardness and rigidity afforded by the Work Hardening.

Re: Re heat treating mild steel
Mild Steel does not have the Carbon content to allow heat treatment other than annealing when it is work hardened. And yet; The previous owner of my place was a farmer / bricklayer. He left some old tools behind, including some spikes made from re-rod. The pointy ends have been hardened; I can't sa...

Re: Re heat treating mild steel
The hardness in mild steel automotive panels is work hardening created when they are pressed into shape, there is no heat treat process to put it back. Hmm, was this too complex to impart the information? Mild Steel does not have the Carbon content to allow heat treatment other than annealing when ...

Re: Shop Uses for Scuba Tank?
I know about the problem with getting them filled. It makes me wonder what people do when they want tanks of compressed air for things other than scuba. Surely you don't have to get certified in order to have a compressed air tank for a workshop. Tank certification requirements depend on a combinat...
