Re: Welding crack
150 amps is above what you would run 1/8” 6013. If you welded a full stick of 3/32” at 150 amps, it would start to glow red when about 1/2 the stick is used up. Your weld looks to be too hot, and traveling too fast. Starts out OK, but as the metal your welding heats up, you started moving faster. Wi...

Re: Welding crack
Is your machine AC or DC? And what diameter is the 6013 you are using? 150 amps is hot if it’s 1/8”, extremely hot if it’s 3/32”.
6013 works well with AC machines, but is a poor choice for penetration, and that looks like part of your problem.

Re: Welding crack
Without knowing what the plate is, or the wire:
You're runnin' too hot.
That's causing you to travel too fast.
And that's causing the weld to be much wider than its depth. Width & depth should be about the same.
I see a lot of spatter too. The rust I see is probably one of the causes for that.

Re: Derailments
In 2008, an automated train at Miami Int'l Airport rolled in to unload passengers.....and kept on going right into a wall. A glitch? While it happened, a maintenance worker was monitoring the train. Asleep at the keyboard? If it's mechanical, and that includes electronics and everything else, at som...

Re: Derailments
Sure. Automation. What could possibly go wrong. Once upon a time, at a big mine in a small town in Arizona, Magma Copper, aka; the San Manuel Railroad, decided to automate their ore hauling. Early 70's, give or take. Not a complex route. Fill up the cars at the mine, travel about 7 miles to the mill...

Re: Help with pipe connection & terminology
The needle valve is threaded in 1/4" compression (ferrule) sleeve, which is 7/16-24, with a 20 deg seat. The fitting next to it is 1/4" NPT, which is 18TPI, and would measure about 1/2". (1/4" pipe measures .54" OD) I know of no single adapter to connect the the two together...

Re: Valve help for a dummy
Take a look at panel mount valves. You would just need to make a mounting bracket.

Re: CAD Software -- free
If you just want simple 2D drawings, try NanoCAD. -It's free. Once you got it, you got it. -It's not cloud based, it downloads to your computer -You can install it on as many computers as you want. I have it on 6. -It opens all my old .dwg files I made on AutoCAD 2000, & 2004LT, and Draftsight (...

Re: Hydraulic control
The control levers provided by valve manufacturers offer little control, and are more an 'on-off' type of control. 'Tapered', or 'Sliding' spool directional valves, with a longer stroke and better metering abilities are spendy. Best thing you can do, is design your own, with the centerline of the sp...
