Re: 2.5" Vulcan Side Frame

What CAD software are you using? I'm using Kuboteck KeyCreator 9.0. CAD/CAM. Old version but it works very well. I've done many, many CNC machine parts using this software - with Mach3 and the embeded software in a Haas CNC machine too. Also used it for running a Sciaky electron beam welder...wrote...

1” scale tread cutting tools: any interest?

Hey guys, Just had a friend quote me for some double sided 1” scale wheel flange cutters. I used 3/4” stock so I could cut the entire wheel face and touch off on a flat for cutting to depth; was planning on milling it down to fit in a 1/2” holder in the middle. Any interest in this? They’re pretty p...

Re: My 12

I’ve bragged about this a few times. That orange thing is a hydraulic stacker. Hand-pushed forklift that since I’m not picking up pallets on a regular basis I don’t mind welding on fixture specific hooks and drilling holes. I spent $700, but I’ve seen em go for cheaper. I use it for everything from ...

Re: Ball end mills

...what else can a ball end end mill be used for? I gotta wonder if you can have a ball mill cut into a square mill. We send a lot of junk mills to contour360 out of Maine. It can be a lot cheaper than buying new, especially if you’re looking for something with a particular radius or weirdo coating.

Re: Redcam benchtop cnc

Full disclaimer: I’m “that guy.” I don’t have experience with this mill, and I totally understand that you wouldn’t have room for anything bigger or heavier. But just for reference: https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191229/81b35e0885ee11488907b89ab6ab2dfa.jpg My only point is that 4K is a lot for w...

Re: Three Phase Generator Question

For those of you with a physics or engineering background, you will know that the force generated is a product of Mass times Velocity. Not to be wise guy, but F=mA P=mv or Momentum=mass*velocity Your suggestion to use a dremel to test a setup is exactly what I’m using though, and it worked perfectly.

Re: Three Phase Generator Question

Well I’m glad I found this... Got me an inrunner 6V to play with thinking “hmm, this motor has three leads. I wonder which one is ground.”

Did not realize it would be three phase. Didn’t even cross my mind. I’m having enough trouble finding a 6V dimmable warm white LED, haha.

Re: Mill & Lathe: Where to Put Them?

A few toolmakers I’ve worked with have the mills turned 30 degrees or so. Never really ran into the wall, and if we had extra long parts it actually made more room sticking it out into the middle of the shop rather than into the machine next to it. A bit more beneficial for having several machines i...

Re: 0-6-0 L9 Switcher, differences

Bumping my old post. I am still drawing parts for this 0-6-0 in 12" gage(2" scale) as I have a few minutes here and there, what would I want to do/use for the "petticoat" for this? I pretty much have the linkage figured out, and looking at a 2-3/4" bore, 5-1/4" stroke ...

Re: Driver machining order

Definitely several ways to skin this cat, which sounds good. I do remember seeing talk about the bend in a Bridgeport table. I’ve only ran into one project that it caused an issue on, and it wasn’t too hard to work around anyways. My boring head is an absolute piece of junk; if you want it to adjust...

Driver machining order

Hello!

Real quick; For a driver wheel, do you drill the axle and crank holes on a mill, then mount the casting on an arbor to cut the flange or do you cut the flange and drill the axle hole on the lathe then drill the crank hole on a mill?
