Re: Patio's projects
T- nuts are completed. I could have gone out and bought these for cheaper than the time that it takes to make them, but what is the fun in that, and I would not have learned as much either. :) I am not retired yet, but the only thing this keeps me from is putting my chopper back together. Someday I ...

Re: Patio's projects
Thanks for the kind word and tips Glenn! I decided to try to make some T-nuts. This is where I am at for now. P4180130.JPG This is what happens when I took to large of a cut. The nut that sets the length of throw for the ram slips a little each pass creating a shorter cut. P4180129.JPG I have anothe...

Patio's projects
Hello Everyone! Well it has been 6 months now since I started to learn to do machine work. I am going to start this new tread to post all my new projects in. My original thread (http://www.chaski.org/homemachinist/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=87984) does not apply anymore, as I am not new to machining, a...

Re: First time poster here, and new to machining!
Tonight I had to leave the shop. Every time I turned around I was making mistakes.
And so it goes.
And so it goes.

Re: First time poster here, and new to machining!
More success in the shop tonight. I bought a piece of steel 3X2X6 inches to make the bracket for the taper attachment. It will be made totally on the shaper. But before I can do that I thought I would see if I could address some of the problems I have been having with its accuracy. It has not been a...

Re: First time poster here, and new to machining!
Life is good when one starts to have success pile up in a row. My success this week are being able to get the shaper to cut how I want is to, when I need it to. So I made a dial indicator carriage stop, as practice for making the Taper attachment clamp bracket. The only part I had to make twice was ...

Re: "Select" milling machine
Now that I have mastered putting pictures on the site, now I have to master how to rotate the pictures 90 degrees so folks don't have to have a crook in their neck! Here they are up right for you. Select mill.JPG Select mill1.JPG Select mill2.JPG I use an "Open Source" software called Pic...

Re: Tooling for Beginner
Hey Joe
I am also one of the new guys here and one of the best suggestions made to me, was to buy what I needed when I needed it, other wise you could spend a TON of money on tooling, for what ifs I want to make something.

Re: First time poster here, and new to machining!
Torch you are exactly right in all you have said. I do have to decide for myself and my company where I draw the line on things like this repair. Just so everyone understands the important part of this job was to make sure that the connection was tight! If it is loose at all it will create heat, whi...

Re: First time poster here, and new to machining!
Hello everybody. I used some 12L14 I had, I do not have any brass, as I am material poor, but am working on that. Torch, I am aware of all the codes involved, as I am an electrical contractor. Yes it could violate some of them, but like Steve says, it is probably a better connection than the origina...

Re: First time poster here, and new to machining!
Tonight I did a paying job....made another rivet! A customer that we are doing a addition for had a chandelier that came with a bad socket. I removed the socket and brought it home to repair. The problem is that a rivet that holds the neutral wire to the socket had broken loose. Hole on the left in ...
