Re: Super Simplex
It's one way I can check the layout, I haven't used imperial measurements since 1975, so have to relearn everything. Just finished reading all your blog posts, thanks for putting that together. I hope the info on my website was useful. Keep us updated on your progress once you start the actual mach...

Re: Super Simplex
It's also possible to make chips instead of re-drawing every thing. I built my Super Simplex pretty much just as drawn. It steams great and runs well. My chassis was running on air in 9 months and ran on It's own steam in 23 months.

Re: Super Simplex

That's pretty cool! It is not in your screen shot of your monitor. Plus, I think the monitor shows the front end of...

Re: Super Simplex
If you have all the ME articles for both locos, that will go a long way towards helping you out. The text is particularly helpful.

Re: Super Simplex
Hi Jock, The Super Simplex can be built without the original drawings. Although the original drawings are handy for comparison. Neither set of drawings is exactly complete. I can help you with any thing that has been left out, including the exact location for the valve motion brackets. Are you locat...

Re: Is the live steam hobby in decline?
I don't expect anyone to move "faster". I expect newbies to be humble, versus arrogant, and to not ignore what the guys say, that have been there before. Ignoring the experience of others is disrespectful. This causes bad attitude in the old guys toward the new guys. I will not suffer fool...

Re: best way to get started?
Elmer's engines is how I started. I was in my early 20's. Then I got plans for a small traction engine. I could clearly see I did not have the skill, experience, or, machinery to build the tractor. I spent several years working in machine shops at the water front in San Diego. I have recently built ...

Re: Is the live steam hobby in decline?
Everything I need to run a coal burning steamer and a few riding cars fits in my Pontiac Vibe. (1" scale 4-3/4" gauge!) No giant truck or fooling around with a trailer. Easy to put back on to the rails. Bigger is not always better.
