Re: Cheapo Harbor Freight Welding Table
My table is 4x8x1/2" with 3" schedule 120 legs and is sometimes known to be the collect all messy area. It also has a couple of 2" receiver tubes for holding various benders, notchers and what have you type accessories. http://i.imgur.com/VpL73oe.jpg The gas lens isn't necessary unles...

Re: Safe to Grind Tungsten on Bench Grinder?
I recall reading about a young man who was apparently collecting Coleman lantern mantles for the Thorium. I think he was trying to create a chain reaction in his backyard. I think he did create a Superfund site. Maybe other readers here can add to the story. Link to the article.http://www.dangerous...

Re: Lathe moving tie down fixture
I'm sure this setup worked fine but most splash shields on Asian lathes are secured with 4 or 5 screws, one screwdriver or hex key wrench and 2 minutes to remove.

Re: power feed
I would think you could flip the lead screw 180 degrees and swap the end flanges but then you would have to deal with the controls being on the back side.

Re: Cut Down OD of MC Shock Spring on Lathe?
I would respectfully disagree with the idea that a coil spring gets stiffer by shortening. Ted It is true that the rate goes up as the spring gets shorter whether coil, leaf or torsion bar. I spent 20 years working for one of the top Modified builders in the country and we had spring rate checkers ...

Re: vises ?
Kurt understands that problem, even with their design, but they address the issue (on some of their vises, if not all) by inserting a pair of small O rings under the slide, forcing the moveable jaw upwards, so it is restrained by the keeper. That way it has no where to go when the vise is tightened...

Re: Best Size Bore for Wood Tool Rest?
If you have a Aloris type post why not insert the appropriate sized shaft in the boring bar holder?

Re: Benefits of Moving from 4 x 6 Asian Band Saw to Big US J
People hate just about every US brand. I didn't hate the 610,the first jobshop I started at in '79 had one then later that year they bought a Kzoo 9aw there was no comparing it with its heavy castings to the 610,so I got spoilt right off the bat. Don't know the production numbers but I'd guess they...

Re: Benefits of Moving from 4 x 6 Asian Band Saw to Big US J
The entire saw is made of welded sheet metal stampings, the handle for the vise screw is a real knuckle buster, uses 4 expensive little pad type brushes instead of rotating wire wheel for blade brushes. Back in about 2000 I had to replace the vice lead screw and tumble nut, found new old stock, lead sc...

Re: Benefits of Moving from 4 x 6 Asian Band Saw to Big US J
The 610D is about one step better than a 4x6 import which is two steps better than a hacksaw,I owned one 1980-2005.
I bought a 7x12 Enco in 2005 and have never looked back.

Re: dovetail on a DTI
I used was a 3/16" end mill, cut a slot .200" wide by 0.070" deep. Then took a small triangular file that I ground safe on one side to cut the 60° angle for the sides of the dovetail.
