Collet Chuck

I recently purchased an asiatic lathe. It was made in 1976 so it isnt a lathe of recent. Not that it matters or is relevent, the lathe is a Gallin Model P-5 10x24. 20211011_145119.jpg My problem is it came with a collet chuck. The main body threads onto the spindle, The headache I cant figure out. T...

Be warned, if the price is too high it will take forever to sell. Good luck on your sale. If you use Facebook. List it on your local swap page, then during posting, share it to Marketplace. If some one is looking they can easily find it there and it wont cost you a thing. Discover Live Steam will ex...

Re: Converting a Baldwin 2-4-2 LYN to a Baldwin 2-4-4

Not trying to dissuade you. Yet you do know why it might not be a good idea to build a 2-4-4 Forney type loco. I had one in 3.75 scale. Because the back end floats on the rear truck. Going around some tracks might get you invited not to return. On the 3.75 scale, the "swing" on the back en...

So all this chatter of why Key steel might be bad. Yet no suggestions of what should be used as an alternative? Seems like too many armchair warriors here.

Re: Mad notions

The owner sent me two more pictures of the machine. Apparently it is chan drive. Tho I am surprised that he has to lift the loco on or off. Seems like if it had some bearings one could roll it on/off. 87992678_824825978021416_3253968606152622080_n.jpg 87395070_645828335976825_2607061203259752448_n.j...

Re: Wash my locomotive

Small areas Carb cleaner in a aerosol works well. You can get a syphon gun for an aircompressor if you wanted to spray it.

Speaking of spoked wheels

I didnt want to hijack the CAD thread. Who out there offers a 5" or 6" spoked wheel. I will be looking to buy 12 wheels this summer (2020). I would like it with 6 or 8 spokes per wheel. These would be non driver type wheels. I do have a light duty antique lathe so casting is fine. The whee...

Re: Trailer Security

A local here in Maine has a trailer with a detachable coupler. It wasnt the styel where the coupler bolts to a plate. Instead the tongue had a diagonal dovetail that the tongue slipped into and a vertical grade 8 (5/8") bolt locked it all together. I just searched fofr an image and couldnt find...
