Re: Picture showing 3.5" gauge, 5" gauge, and 7.25" gauge?
Hi Benjamin, Yes, as you can see from my avatar, I do not live in Minnesota either. The St.Croix RR is actually in Wisconsin. So, I drove there. Split the drive in two and got there in two days. Ran my steamer for 3 of the 4 days. Got to meet Marty Knox, real nice and knowledgeable fellow. It was a ...

Too bad you didn't get to the recent meet at the St. Croix Railroad. There were all three gauges there, all in steam. Of course, there was 4-3/4" instead of 5" gauge. FLLS will have both 4-3/4" and 7-1/4" running this weekend at their track. I'll be running 4-3/4" steam.

Re: Lower melting temp cadmium free solders for boilers
Yes, this happens quite frequently. You must cover everything with flux including areas that have already been silver soldered. Even when this is done, you can still create leaks in areas previously soldered. Staybolts are particularly problematic as they are in close proximity to each other an ther...

Re: Lower melting temp cadmium free solders for boilers
That solder from Amazon is only 6 per cent silver solder. You need around 45 per cent silver for making boilers. 6 per cent silver solder is not fit for making a boiler.

You might ask this question on the 1" scale ride on forum on Facebook. Some private tracks are not listed on DSL.

Kimball McGinley - I hope you and your family survived the recent fire in your area. I lived in southern CA many years ago and am very aware of the fire danger.

Re: Crosshead pumps
It is completely possible to have multiple pump/injectors feeding a boiler at a common point. The requirement is to have a check valve at the discharge of each item, and/or before the point where they are all "teed" together. I have a steam pump, injector, hand pump and axle pump that feed...

Re: Live Steam Clubs in Europe?
Cheaper to live in Europe? Not sure about that. Many European countries offer many "free" services, these are all paid for with taxes. There is no free lunch. Taxes in Scandinavian countries are outrageous. I've been to England, France and Germany, it's all very expensive. I see you live i...

Re: How to make sure your injector will always work
All my connectors between my tender and injector are traditional style model engineer cone unions. I made them all myself, so, they are nothing special. They must be air tight, any air leaking into an injector water line will spoil the function of an injector. Cone unions are easily made airtight an...

Large plastic tub from Walmart. Large enough to put my entire copper boiler in. Filled with citric acid. Right next to it is another tub filled with plain water for rinsing. Both tubs have plastic lids. Do not use a metal container for pickling solution. I would not recommend putting a recently hot...

Thanks for the correction Mike. In any case, it seemed the OP was showing a screen shot to show a modification, except it had not been drawn yet! I assumed since, the modification was not actually in the screen shot, that maybe he meant the other end of the frames. I think the project is really abou...
