Re: Tracks to the Trenchs World War 1 Commenmoration

Museum is closed for COVID, but this engine has a great spot in the field under cover. Took some dimensions and detail pics. Missing the air compressor and someone smashed the windows out late last year, but otherwise fairly accessible and untouched. I keep thinking this would make a great 3 1/2” ga...

Re: Tracks to the Trenchs World War 1 Commenmoration

I’m having a tough time getting the right search words. Any good examples of scale trench locomotives? I’m going to be at Fort Benning next week, and it just so happens they have a Baldwin 10-12 on display. Cute little engines; I’m planning on taking some detail pictures.

Re: What kind of tap set???

I was young and dumb and bought “the most expensive tap and die set at the dollar store” as they say. I figured if I’m going to buy cheap taps, I’d better have every single one. Probably $200 from a car parts store. Every one of those was scrap. I couldn’t chase threads in soft materials with the da...

Re: What have we learned?

Someone had an idea where they stole the core code of Facebook and made a registry of locomotives and owners. Somewhere to dump all the pictures you could and basic info.

I’m still wondering which is worse; knowing the government controls propaganda or having no clue who’s pulling the strings.

Re: IMTS 2020 Canceled

They advertise in all the trade magazines, and I wondered if they would be greedy enough to actually have 130,000 individuals NOT at the required distance, and some Trumpies refusing to wear masks! What does whether you do or don’t like Trump have to do with wearing a mask? It was the right decisio...

3 in 1 Machine - How Do You Move This 507 lb Machine?

I really hope the OP figured this out; 6 years is a long time to do all your machining in the prone from the floor.

Re: Paint help

Greg, I’ve decided to stay away from All Rustoleum paint. I’ve found that it chips badly at the slightest impact with any metal object. Frustrating how easily it chips, and how big the flakes are that pop off the surface. No more for me! Alternatantly, when I refinished my Ottaway, couple years ago...

Re: Cylinder honing

So my only experience with a Sunnen is professional; we’d drill and bore aluminum parts then hone just about every single hole, from .080 to 3” diameter. For the most part setting up the boring bar was more work than it was worth, and our mills were pushing 35 years old, so the honing was more to ma...

Just kidding: was window shopping and “accidentally” hit the buy now button. Oh well.

Man I suck at budgeting.

I think I’ve crossed paths with your build thread a few times here; that’s one sharp looking engine! Great choice and fine modeling.

Re: The 1" Kozo A3 that never was (a bit of a CAD rambling)

Speaking of, I’m pretty sure I bought my Kozo A3 book straight off DLS. Now it’s all on amazon and the only one available is “used good” for $150? $150??? What is going on here...

I looked it up on Village press, and they still have it at $50. Life on earth can continue. I was getting worried.
