I would also like to hear some details on this body. Is it fiberglass, wood, sheet metal or what? Do you have some more pics of the finishing process you used to get such a beautiful paint job? Thanks.

I use Micro-Engineering large track spikes for my 3/4 track. You can get them at just about any hobby shop that has a good supply of model railroading supplies. They use it for hand laying track on O and G railroads.

I was thinking about making another barrel unless anyway has any tricks to get rid of the porosity? Although I've never personally tried it I've heard and read that you can use de-soldering wick to fill gaps and add additional layers to porous seams. You can stuff it into any gaps that are too larg...

Re: gages

So Siggy you might want to take a look at these then answer why you seem to think this a bad way to go... D What is the diameter of the column inlet in full size? 3/4"? 1"? What is the diameter of the column inlet in model size? 1/16"? 1/8"? Which one do you think is likely to p...

OK, in an effort to add some actual analysis behind this discussion I broke out my finite element analysis software and did a couple of runs to see what kind of forces would be actually seen on these set screws. Here are the results. Assumptions: 4-40 set screw with std .050 hex socket. 18-8 SS. 3D ...

I read a hint in Joseph Nelson's book about side and main rod bearings. He states that you want to turn the OD of the bearing about .002 smaller than the hole in the rod. The reason is to allow the bearing to spin, thereby wearing the bearing evenly through the entier diameter instead of causing egg...

OS Live Steam (http://www.oslivesteam.com/english/live ... index.html) advertises 3/4" stuff on the back cover of Live Steam almost every month. Also, all of Kozo Hiraoka's designs (4 of them) are all 3/4".
