Re: "Civil Engineering for Outdoor Railroads"

Ben, Thank you for the faith you have in me. I will have to do some investigating and talk to a lawyer about the legal side. Unfortunately, there may be a down side to the potential popularity of these 2 volumes. Vol.2 is particularly engineering directed. Doug stated one of his reasons for these bo...

Re: "Civil Engineering for Outdoor Railroads"

Daris, I found it!!! The CD appears to be working but I am NOT computer savvy and don't know what to do in order to get the info to you. Ken, I have both vol.2 & 3. I see there was a vol.2 just sold on eBay. You might keep an eye on eBay for one. There are 4 vol 1s on there right now. I know Dou...

Re: "Civil Engineering for Outdoor Railroads"

Daris,

I have one. The first thing is: I'll have to find it. Second: I'll have to see if it still works. Third: I'll have to figure out how to get the info to you.

I'll see what I can do.

Re: Monte Rio Ghost Train

My wife does a large presentation for Halloween. Thus, I KNOW how much work is involved in a front yard display. Yours would have taken at least 4 times more work than a full front yard. AND much more than 4 times the expense. Great display! Too bad there weren't more to enjoy it. Thank you for taki...

Re: Arizona Gandy Dancers

f you need information on Tie Spacing, I have posted a Tie Spacing Chart in the General Discussion - Resource Section / page 2 (at the bottom)

A lot of good information there.

Good Luck,

Re: Very Basic MIG Question

Many welders started with stick welding. Many of us do both stick and MIG. For some, it's hard to remember to let go of the trigger instead of pulling back to end the arc. Speaking from personal experience there. I too find more wire out when I'm done than when I was actually welding. Being as I use...

Re: Curved Cut Edge from Drill Sharpen Jig

When using this type of jig, you rotate the jig and thus the bit, past the grinding wheel. This circular motion will create a rounded edge. Many machinists highly recommend against this type of jig for that specific reason. One of the reasons a person will find this type of jig all over the place is...

Re: Weld Helmet Recommendation

mcman, I started with an old flip up single shade lens. I went to a HF auto dark, same as you. I had trouble seeing and it didn't last long. I purchased a better HF auto dark. I think it lasted 6-8 welds and broke. Like you, I am a seldom welder with some vision problems. Following the "Buy Onc...

Re: Welding on 110 vs 220. Amps change.

Current usage and voltage are directly linked. It's Ohm's Law. If you draw 20 amps with 110volts, the same load will draw 10 amps on 220. That's why industrial machines use 220, 440, or higher to reduce the amperage draw and thus the size of the wires bringing the power to the machine but still get ...
