Re: Pressure gage

You definitely want a siphon tube. Its purpose is to keep live steam from entering the gauge and affecting the bourdon tube in the gauge.
Water will condense in the siphon and that will keep the steam from entering the gauge.

Re: Plastic Detail Parts

When used as Classification Lamps the colors have specific meanings. White denotes an Extra train. Green means that there is a second section following running on the same schedule. And red denotes a hind end. As the definition of a “train” is one or more locomotives, coupled, either with or without...

Re: 3/4" Scale J1e

Jack, Just being curious, but your drop coupler doesn’t appear to fully drop into the recess in the pilot. From what I have been told the drop coupler’s purpose was to tuck the coupler in so that if you struck an object (like an automobile) it would be deflected and not trapped under the coupler. At...

Re: Alcalde & Coalfield High Line

Don't you guys ever worry about losing your balance and falling off? I have always been really nervous about the smaller scales in that regard. Nope…..if you feel you are losing your balance, you just stand up. It all depends on what you grew up with. I feel uneasy riding on 1 - 1/2” scale stuff on...

Harry Sait running his 3/4” scale 4-4-2. Baker valve gear (not reversed) operating outside admission slide valves dummied to look like piston valves.
Notice the long frame Baker is not reversed.

He must have sat on tender. Funky looking tender for sure. Main rod with an offset ? Was this built by Holt or Pinkham ? 3 1/2" on the ground in the thirties. Any markings on any of the castings? Saddle, valve chests, cylinders. I think the Northern was built by Pinkham and the Pacific was bui...

Either way, that's your classic Little Engines locomotive right there. Wonder where the reserve will tap out.
Looking closely…..I’m pretty sure that is not a Little Engines Atlantic. I believe it is a Friend’s 1” scale Atlantic. It has different cylinders and Baker valve gear.

Re: Baker Valve Gear

John, if you check out the Friend’s / Yankee Shop 3/4” and 1” scale Atlantics, you will see that they all use Baker valve gear with slide valves.
Basically you reverse the angle of the eccentric crank.
