Re: working too slow
It just seems that anytime I try to think something out it becomes a nap and then nothing gets done. I sometimes resemble that remark . LOL Im looking for some feedback on how to work faster. Below is a part i made this weekend, it took me almost an entire day, im looking for how long it should hav...

Re: source for round belts
Sensitive and left handed, Hmmm. Steve , the feed could be set up right handed or left handed , decided on the left . Don't remember why . Oh , my wife would say sensitive ? NOT ! The drill press has a 8500 rpm spindle speed thru a variable speed sewing machine motor . Needs a little more tor...

Re: source for round belts
SteveM , have had some success with using Super Glue to splice o- rings together to make a belt drive for a sensitive drill press . http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh120/cgrhse/IMG_0013-3.jpg finished , but no belt on it . http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh120/cgrhse/IMG_0022-3.jpg Took severa...

Re: Anyone Heard of Clark Lathes?
Steve , that lathe and the other clones of it , supplied by HF , Grizzly , Precision Mathews , Jet , Enco , MSC , and many others , has been around for a while . They all appear to look the same and have the same specs . The specs on the E-bay lathe are exactly as my Jet GH-1440 W-1 lathe . Mine was...

Re: New Toy!
Checked my records on buying bags and the last purchase was for 2 rolls of 11" x 50' @ $ 19.00 a roll .That's a lotta bags . As you have already figured out , you can make your own custom sizes by cutting to size and sealing the ends .One thing to keep in mind as something w/ sharp edges will m...

Re: New Toy!
Glen , have one those and use it all the time . Great for the freezer and stuff . When it seals it has all ready pulled a vacuum and leaves it conformed to the shape of the piece to be sealed cutting down on storage space . Good idea about storage for rust proofing things . Should work like a charm ...

Re: Supporting Work Piece Between Chuck and Dead Center
Very interesting info . I know this thread is about turning between centers . but............... Some questions and enlightenment . There's a problem that rears its ugly head when you operate a part that is held rigid in a chuck, supported with a center. When the problem is great enough, it b...

Re: HSS parting tool holder question
Welcome to the forum , boarder 1 . Don't know what size QCTP you have . 1/2 " seems pretty narrow , IIRC the AXA holder took a 5/8" size and the tool holder for 14x40 Jet takes a BXA size 11/16" one . I used the T shaped blades and milled a relief slot in the top of the tool holder bl...

Re: Setup New Lathe
Bill , you need to get some lube on those open gears . Most major oil co . will have a open gear lube . Can't ( CRS) remember what I use , but it is a spray and very tacky . Black and sticks like the devil , Has EP properties . After the first coating , a little slings off , but the rest sticks like...

Re: Note to self
I would almost bet that everyone that has run a lathe has done this very thing . I know I have ! My thread chart is very easy to read , but I still mess up . Mind set on the threading process takes total concentration for me . Any interruptions and the procedure stops right at that point , trouble i...

Still quick service . All the parts were included and after assembly , it was set up in the mill . Talk about going t...
