Re: Enco 12x36 Bench Lathe

Smaller than 7/16 by eyeball comparison. They are rated at "600 lbs" - give 'em half and they should work. I installed flanged nuts under the brackets for locking the threads, so that will give more bearing area on the underside of the bracket when it's just a static load. 10 x 1.25 - majo...

Re: Enco 12x36 Bench Lathe

10mm is about the same as a 3/8 fine. Should be enough. If not, they are welded on the outside of the legs and a little work with a cutoff tool will slice them off.

Re: Enco 12x36 Bench Lathe

Chris-- It is looking good ! I really like the tool chest. Did you have that in mind from the start or did it just sort of come to you later? --Bill Once I got a sketch of what I thought I wanted and looked at the spare metal pile, I started thinking that would be a good thing to have. It was on sa...

Re: Enco 12x36 Bench Lathe

Some progress - not home a lot lately, but did get some more done on the stand this weekend. Got the lower framework tacked in at least. http://raceabilene.com/machine/12X36/image/12x36Stand_005.jpg My pick for the tail end storage solution solution. On the other end, I think I'm just going to put a...

Re: Enco 12x36 Bench Lathe

Bags of...engine blocks. One 351W, one 351C 4 bolt. What I was going to spend money on, but then this lathe thing showed up and the budget took a hit. Budget...hahaha. So after a couple of days it looks more like a stand. Got another 2 lb spool of .030 wire and now I can work again. Started with leg...

Re: Enco 12x36 Bench Lathe

A bit of movement on this item - managed a start on the stand. I spent a couple of hours Saturday before the race cleaning rust off of steel tubing with a 4" angle grinder. Fun. After I got the tube looking useful, I cut a bunch of the major pieces. Last night I spent a couple of hours welding ...

Re: New to form and Milling in general need some help

Very nice stand. I would wire the unit for 240v. The current draw is half of 120 (same total watts used) and allows for smaller more affordable wire. Only other comment is that leveling with 4 feet will make you nuts.

Re: Enco 12x36 Bench Lathe

I don't see the problem, that's a genuine Harbor Freight welding stand. Certified to a chinese metric 1000 lbs. ( +/- 800 lbs ) ;) This is TEXAS man, we gonna build a stand out of Mesquite. If it fails, we'll cook something with the pieces.

Re: New HF mill on the way to me

I don't key my vice either. I figure if I need it accurate, I can dial it in. If not, I can eyeball it in. I used a bit of 3/8-16 all thread and flange nuts to secure my vice to the table. Just remember "Check all parts for proper condition before operation; if normal safety precautions are not...

I told her if she ever gets that question again to say "It's near Madagascar, down by the coast." That would be assuming they even know about Matagorda Island to be confused by the response.

Re: Enco 12x36 Bench Lathe

Got the thing off the skid last night. That's not a balance point, but it was enough to let me lift the tail end and slide the skid out from under. The lathe is now parked off to the side - I still have to get a sick race car in here this weekend for some tuning so I'm trying to clear a space. The h...

Re: 12 x 36 Lathe Tips and Notes

along the lines of the last photo of a carriage stop....are there carriage stops that actually disengage the feed with accuracy? Say 1 thou, regardless of the feed speed or depth/load of cut. I've run lathes that had graduated stops to the feed lever, but the actual point of disengagement varied wi...
