Re: To pump or not to pump that is the question
Why do away with a working backup when all you need to do is leave it in bypass?

Re: 2 1/2" Ulin Shay - WSLC #15
I have a 13 x 40 that I have had for 15+ years. It did need some tweaking for the first set up but has been a very good investment. However I have been trying to buy Non-China stuff lately so my suggestion wood be find a used lathe or mill even a grizzly since the money has already left the USA. Als...

Re: Steam Dome Cap Material To Use
Actually that part is considered part of the pressure vessel and should be SA-515-70. A36 is a mild steel and is used for stay bolts.
These are per the ASME code. Even if you are not building a code boiler why not use code material.

You need to be sure what the safety valve settings are. Won't do you any good to hydro to 125psi if the safety's are set at 125 psi also.

Re: Building a small loop around the house?
I agree with John. I have a dog bone layout with about 1500' of track (3000' of ride) and if I had to do it over again, I wouldn't. Too much maintenance. But if you are still a young buck and don't mind the work go for it. BTW my track is on a bed liner (plastic) and ballast with wood ties. Holds my...

Brake & Wheel patterns for sale
The wheel pattern is for a 7" that can be used on 12 to 16 inch gauge equipment. The brake shoe is two parts. The hanger mounts on a one inch brake beam. The shoe mounts to the hanger. I have the patterns for both parts. The shoe can be used on 6 to 8 inch wheels. If you have any interest conta...

Re: Hauling your locomotive
The really important thing is to have enough tongue weight. Don't load a lot of weight in the back of the trailer.

BTW make life simple and get electric brakes. New trucks like my Chevy have factory controller wiring.

Re: Hauling your locomotive
Buy a 6x10 trailer. Hauls my 800 lb. Shay and three 2 1/2" cars. When you get home after dark from running all day just park it. Rain or shine.
