Re: new Craftex lathe and new poster
Hi revrnd and hammermill. So far as Paci/India goes, with my hearing problem I just hang up since there is no way I can even begin to understand what they are talking about. Just have to get myself a quick-change tool-post. The four-way tool-post that came with the lathe is a real pain. I spend mor...

Re: OT: Garage Remodel for Lathe
Nice looking shop Bill. Could you post a link to the lathe arrival? Harold, I've noted your floor cleanup tip. I'll probably just paint the floor. I know what you guys mean about the epoxy "hockey rink" effect. I've been in a shop that had a "pure" epoxy coating that was treacher...

Mill Spindle Lube Question
0008 Mill RESIZED.jpg Now that I've got the lubrication questions answered for my lathe, I figured I'd get the mill spindle lube sorted out. The manual says to use a light machine oil such as Socony D.T.E. light or equivalent. Socony seems to have disappeared in the Mobil history around 1966. I gue...

Re: Lubes for lathes?
OK, so as I read it I need, ISO 32 hyd' oil for the headstock (in shop) ISO 68 hyd' oil for the apron (need to get) ISO 68 way oil for the ways (in shop labelled 20WT) Thanks guys. Too bad that the machine tool vendors can't get their act together when they're specifying oil requirements. Reminds me...

Great shop!! Roomy, nice and bright with the white walls, and well lit. Plenty of room for more machines, too...although very well equipped. Enjoy it! I hate working in shadows. Not all of the work areas I worked in were well lit (high ceiling mounted sodium lights) so I like the well lit set up. S...

While the workshop is 24 feet square. So it's 24 x 1? Looks a bit wider in the pics  Welcome, How come you picked up the lathe in Mtl.? I'm guessing you must be east of the GTA? We moved to NS from Martintown, ON in '09 it was about an HR. from MTl and Ottawa. Steve You don't like my math? LOL...

Re: Recently Joined
How do you keep the walls and floor clean? Well the walls were painted just before Christmas so that could change in a while  . The floor, I try not to get paint on it, I'll put something down. For the most part, the floor is swept at the end of the day. Always did that in my "crib"...

That's a nice shop you have there. I'm out of room myself and am trying to figure out what to do about it. whether to build on or start over, I can't decide :| How do you heat your shop? A 220V contractor's heater. Probably not the cheapest way, but takes up no space & no issues w/ the ins' co'.

Re: Lubes for lathes?
Trying to clear up a lube question for a newby w/ the common 12 x 36 gearhead lathe sold by Grizzly, King & others. The info I have from King is that I should run a ISO 32 grade oil in the headstock which agrees w/ what Grizzly says. King says I should run Shell Telus 32 (ISO ?) in the apron whi...
