Re: Seeking Information on Andy Clerici’s Allegheny
I have Jim's drawings and will check on the drivers, as compared to the Allegheny drawings in the book: The Allegheny Lima's Finest by Eugene Huddleston & Thomas Dixon. The Berkshire had 69" drivers as compared to 67" on the Allegheny, and the Berk had 25/26" x 34 bore and stroke ...

Re: LeBlond Lathe
Do yourself a favor, pull the collet cuck off and check the spindle taper. When I got my Leblond, the taper was all buggered up from chucks being installed without cleaning the taper first. I wound up having to regrind the spindle nose on mine .

Re: Seeking Information on Andy Clerici’s Allegheny
C & O historical society doesn't have the mechanical drawings for the Allegheny. I believe the California State Railroad museum does. To the best of my knowledge, Truson's drawings went to Roger Goldman but I may be wrong on that, Rob Gardner may have a better idea on that.

Re: LeBlond Lathe
That's a reasonable price considering it does both inch and metric threads. Does it come with the threading chart and dial for metric,, or just the change gears ? 1980's is when Leblond started to introduce metric threading on all their lathes, later they switched over to the camlock spindles and in...

Re: Seeking Information on Andy Clerici’s Allegheny
Charles Balmer built an Allegheny in 3/4" scale , making over a 100 of his own castings. Andy built a 1/8 scale as well as a fellow in Australia. If your on Facebook it appears several times on the 1/8 scale Berkshire page run by Jim Krieder. No idea about drawings, I have asked around as well,...

Re: Flat belts
My father told me to mix gasoline with kerosene, I'm guessing that's what my grandfather told him to do. Worked quite well and I never set myself or anything else on fire.....don't do that anymore though. Later on in life when I was a mechanic there was Safety Clean, which worked OK. Now there is al...

Re: Rookie Lathe Soft Jaw Questions
How do you go about boring a set of jaws accurately every time? Use an inside mic, such as the B&S Intirimik, where you get 3 points of contact , one on each jaw. Telescoping gauges will work as well if your part is small enough that the jaws encapsulate it, or you can get a good 2 points of con...

Re: New steel wheels being offered
Looks like these wheels are for 5" scale? Such as the Redwood Valley? That's a wide wheel at 3.5".

Re: Arizona Grand Scale Railway Society
Oh, I am not close to being done by any means, regular work keeps getting in the way, but I have to think into the future. I'll shortly have a machine up and running that for the most will be dedicated to the production of my loco. Eventually I'll start a post of my build in the Grand Scales forum. ...

What parts would you outsource for machining/fabrication?
If you are now building, or have built a Live Steam locomotive or Diesel in the past, what parts would you outsource if you were to do it all over again? Frames, wheels / drivers, cylinders, side rods ??? What items are most desired that are not presently on the market? I ask this question regarding...

Re: Arizona Grand Scale Railway Society
Gosh darn, that's a bit of a commute for me. Just out of curiosity, what is the minimum radius going to be? At some point in the future I will be looking for places to run my locomotive, once I get it built. 100ft minimum sure would be nice.....I could squeak by on that.
