Re: liability Insurance
As someone who was once an insurance attorney, the potential liability that the company would have to take on for three months would never justify the $750 premium that they could get from your club. Insurance claims are either nothing (because no one is injured) or a lot (because someone(s) is inj...

Re: liability Insurance
Thanks, I'll check into it. I guess what has me burned the most about these prices is that for the approximately 3 month summer season where 99% of the running takes place, the cost is now $1000 a month! If they just charged by the month, it would be $250 a month, still high but at least within the ...

Re: liability Insurance
Russell, I wonder if the size of your proposed train (18” gauge”) and nature of the venue had something to do with the cost? Now, 2 years out of date, but my last quote for a 12” backyard RR was in the neighborhood of $1200 or $1500. Although Commercial operations are always more expensive. I’ll ha...

Re: liability Insurance
Be sure you get it in writing from an underwriter (not an agent) that you are covered. Though I haven't seen a public ride insurance policy, I have seen others, all quotes come with specific language about what is covered, and specifically excluded. I know my maintenance business has specific exclu...

Re: liability Insurance
Got a response from Dan Roddy at HMBD Insurance and he says the $3000 a year up front for a no charge ride is correct!!!
Absolutely crazy. I'm going to check into some kind of rider on my home insurance but there has got to be a way to make this work....

Re: Arborway, T.T. and NW Closed
So is there more specific information about the sale and future disposition of this great railroad? As an earlier post asked: Is there any idea yet if it might be reconfigured into a non-profit club or museum (at the same location or another)? I heard last night from my friend in Missouri that the e...

Re: liability Insurance
I was thinking to limit liability do what the railroads do: 1)liability insurance 2)liability release on each ticket 3) workers trained and liability covered by membership fees.
Still not cheap but at least all your a---- (bases) are covered.

Re: liability Insurance
Interesting this just came up on my feed, I have been designing an 18" gauge portable train, electric for now, may be Steam in the future. It is large but stable. I have recently revived my old 7 1/2" gauge train I built 35 years ago and am thinking it might be better for a small portable ...

Re: USATC S-160 Consolidation
Great stuff Dick! Someday I want to build an 0-4-0 in 18" gauge (approximately 1/2 scale) and the big dream is a couple of Sumpter Valley Ry 2-6-6-2s!

Re: Arborway, T.T. and NW Closed
According to the announcement from the Friends group they are looking for a buyer that will keep it together and keep it running. As you and I both know, such pie-in-the-sky buyers are few and far between, unless something amazing happens (it is possible!) it will likely be sold off and reconfigured...

I am not in the area so don't know but evidently they didn't have a succession plan in place prior to his passing, sad.

Re: Shoptask 1720
Yup, I did use PB, and had done for years, assuming that they would be stable and honest with their service... but they SUCK, and deserve to suffer a painful Corporate death. However... anyone using Chrome or Firefox can easily download a "Plugin" that bypasses the PB block so you can see...
