Re: Slots in 1/8" plate?

Yes, IF/WHEN you can convince them you know what you are talking about and don't have to phone your husband for clarification! GRRRRR!JackF wrote:That's just one of the advantages Gals have over Guys.

Re: Wheels to axle - removable?
Video is similar in final configuration but I am using chain drive, not gears, and the motor mounting to the axle will not be "split bearings"

Slots in 1/8" plate?
I don't have a milling machine and I am NOT a fan of hand-filing but I need to do a number of curved slots in 1/8" plate (to allow adjustment of electric motors for chain drive). They are only for #10 screws and I don't have a saw small enough. I find drilling multiple holes and opening the slo...

Wheels to axle - removable?
I am working on a 1/8 scale (7.5" gauge) electric trolley with all axles chain driven. Each motor is to be mounted on a bracket welded to a tube concentric to the axle and riding on bronze bushings - this maintains motor-to-axle distance for chain tightness and allows independent axle displacem...

Re: What glue is best for rubber to metal
I used contact cement to attach rubber ties to the steel rims on my 1/2 scale Russell traction engine and water wagon 16 years ago and never had a problem. I had to repair one wheel this summer and it was a devil of a job getting the rubber tire off of the steel rim! The problem with the contact cem...

Re: Locomotive Construction from 1928
They sure weren't concerned with "health & safety" in those days! No hearing protection, no eye protection, no respirators ..... The accident rates and premature death or disability must have been pretty high.

Re: Tractors?
I did a 10HP in half scale - big enough to ride on but small enough to trailer (comfortably) behind a pickup truck.

WOW! Fantastic Kap - THANK YOU!
I like the idea of using a template in the tailstock - I would never have thought of that.

Re: "Production Machining"
Changing the inside and outside radii to a straight angled cut would simplify things a great deal. I'll do that.
My first choice was to have them cast but there is nobody around here that could cast them for a reasonable price before spring.

"Production Machining"
I have done a lot of one-off machining over the years but the next project is a 7.5" gauge streetcar and I need to make 6 identical wheel/axle sets. The axles are a simple turning job but the wheels will be machined from 1.5" thick steel plate cut into discs and machined on all surfaces, I...
