Re: don't do this!!!!!!!!!!

Todd, I have had the problem of cleaning SS/CO2 sand off mullers many times. Sometimes a little hot water will help soften the sand, but it is still hard work to clean up. I will usually use a cup type wire-brush on my grinder. Now, I only use my lab-muller to mix the SS/CO2 sand. It only holds 25 l...

Re: Dingo Attachments

The Toro Dingo Bucket Attachment is conservatively rated at 500 lbs by Toro, but it will actually lift almost 1000. The Dingo is a "walk behind machine" unless you add a Standing Platform. I added the platform, so that I have an extra 200+ pounds for torque on the rear, but it still could ...

Re: Dingo Attachments

Back in April I made this post of some Toro Dingo attachments I had welded up. You may have wondered, of what use is that "Snorkel" attachment, well, here is one way we are using it: The sheet metal building kit that my brother recently purchased is a sort of a large "A.C.Gilbert Erec...

Re: Ephemeral nature of web sites.

Well, it appears Yahoo, at least in the case of those two groups I view, has decided to go back to the old format. I don't know their reason, it may be just temporary, or there were many complainers. This is another example of the ephemeral nature of such sites. At a whim, Yahoo can change or delete...

Re: Grob Band Saw welder model R W A

I bought a used model RWB a couple of years ago, and there were no instructions. I called Grob, and they were kind enough to send me the 8 page copy of the instructions.

Here is their web site, where you can find their phone number. Their products are AMERICAN MADE!!!

Ephemeral nature of web sites.

A good example of the ephemeral nature of web sites is what Yahoo is doing to their groups. They have drastically changed their format, and apparently will be applying this to all groups. Several of the so called "Site Owners" have given up in disgust, and transferred away from Yahoo. Thes...

Re: I need contact....

Chris, if you have not already done so, here are two important sites where you can obtain N&W steam locomotive information:

http://www.nwhs.org/

http://www.nwhs.org/mailing_list.html

I have been a member for many years. The do have drawings for the Y, you can ask about reproductions.

Re: Modern day riveting (cheating)

Great job! When I did my two American Bridge Co. turntables, I searched for some type of rivets similar to what you used. I finally settled on Drive Screws. Drive Screws have a spiral body, so there is no need to do anything to the screw, you just tap it in place. I ordered 20,000 (1/8" head x ...

Re: Show us your welding setup.

For my welding setup, I use a Presto hydraulic lift table that I bought on ebay. A new table like this sell for several thousand, this one with shipping was $800. Well worth that amount, because, by the press of the foot switch, I can instantly adjust my welding height. I also use it to lift mowers ...

Re: My first attempt at green sand...

Dave, thanks for the advice. Though I have been into metal casting for many years, it has been as a hobbyist, not a professional. I have learned a lot from those closely associated with metal casting. Yes, my friend Mike, who taught foundry for 25 years, preferred bottom gating. Having at first trie...

Re: My first attempt at green sand...

Looks good. Now lets see what kind of risers, gating, and sprue you are going to use. If you noticed my pics, I use a rectangular spure, I found over the years that that kind of spue causes less turbulence in the metal. Usually you want the gating and sprue to be a bit larger for Lost Foam. One thin...
