I really don't think this is critical, as there just admittance to the cylinder, and connect with the exhaust port on the exhaust stroke. As long as the stroke of the piston does not completely cover them.

Hope someone buys it.....in the meantime it's back to my pattern making days.....with some good iron foundries in my area, getting castings is not a problem

I've seen many, many engines with the pop valves on the boiler shell or above crown sheet.......not just on the dome ????

That would take a pretty good size die and press to stamp out something like that.....you would also need a trim die to square up the edges after stamping

Hmmm ..all very interesting....what happens with a quick throttle opening, or a surge of water in the atomizer line ?.....is there a quick way to relight the fire, on the run ??......do live steam modelers use fire brick in the fire box ?

Yes, cleaning it with acetone after blasting is fine, and it will solder.....but try it with out cleaning with acetone, you'll be surprised how the tiny bit of dust left behind will prevent solder from flowing....that's what I was saying about the original posting here.....looks to be like he sand b...

Feel free to give it a try....or google it......I know several guys who sandblasted there front flue sheet to clean it, then tried silver soldering in there copper flues.....wouldn't work.....you had to chamfer the flue sheet to get under the blasted surface.......I've tried it numerous times over t...

Looks like that condenser on the left has been sand blasted ?....if your getting any silver solder on that?,
