Tom-- I restored a chest some time ago. Building a front cover is relatively easy. Some of the older chests are worth surprising amounts. They are not mine. I'm trying to help a friend figure out if there is any value in any of them. I think there may be with the top case.

But I am not sure.

I found the B*B cases at online auctions. They are inexpensive watchmakers chests. I found two; $65 and $75.

But how about that top chest? It looks like a machinist chest for sure. What do you think?

Mistake #2: I had a choke hold on that reamer. All of the shank was stuck up in the collet. Thank you for the guidance.

When I reamed holes for the earlier engines, I probably gripped the shank more like it should be held.

I used this 1/8" R8 collet.

Regarding single phase and spool down . . . I could see cranking it up, then shutting it off almost as soon as the tap engaged.

Like liveaboard said, some experience and broken taps would teach you a lot.
